If the user has been assigned “participant” status, is there any way to do this?

Hey,
thx. I will try it out.
One issue is that it hasn’t been updated for 2 years. This could break anytime. (not complaining though, as this is better than no option).

It’s unlikely to break, it hooks to bbpress functions that are stable.
