Good afternoon,

I am currently working on my website which utilises BBpress for it’s key function. I have set all of the forums to private so that only users can visit them. I am now currently trying to prevent a category of user from being able to access other user’s posts.

I am using the user role editor plugin to do this, which allows me to prevent people from reading private topics. Sounds easy enough, but how do I set topics (as opposed to forums) to private?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

so is this just a specific topic or topics you are trying to hide?

and when you say ‘access’ do you mead read?

I’d suggest you look at my private groups plugin, just set all the forums you need to to a group, and all the ‘normal’ users to this group, and they will see these.

Don’t set the category of user to this group, and they won’t see posts from these forums

Hi Robin, thank you for your reply.

I want all topics to be hidden, so that the user cannot read the topic, with the exception of those created by the user. It is important that the user is able to access the forum and create topics in each, but is not able to see topics created by other users.

Looking at the plug in you mentioned, I’m not sure it will be able to accommodate for this?

no it won’t help

so you will have

several forums
registered users
forums only seen by registered users
in each forum, a user can only see topics topics created bv himself
presumably he will see replies to those topics created by moderators/admins?
so moderators/admins able to see all topics and respond?

Ideally yes, although it isn’t necessary.

hmm, just been thinking about this.

Displaying topics and replies would require some filters, but stopping widgets/searches etc. from picking up these topics would require much more.

In effect it would be my private groups plugin re-written to topic level.

Lots of code I think, and beyond time I currently have available.

Just an update, I now believe I am going to change a few functions of my site, in which case your plug-in offers the perfect solution.

Hello Robin W,

I was reading this post and I am looking for this feature.
I have a bbpress forum where I would like where we are in a forum each user can only see his topic.
I am using bbpress like a customer support and when a user post a topic in “private” mode, I would like he’s the only one user he can see the topic with another group like moderator or other (defined in Bbpress Private Group).

Could you tell me if it’s possible to do this with your plugin?
