Can you try uploading all the files again? The button on that first screen should have some text in it, I think it says “next >” or something, but that’s not there. Maybe your download or upload got corrupted. The problem you describe is not a common one.
Also, what alpha version are you installing?
Just downloaded the most recent version, re-uploaded all the files again.
Version I uploaded is:
Version 0.9.0.4:
Still getting the same issue of the text not showing up on the buttons. Something weird is going on here.
Deleting it all and trying yet again.
PS My sense is that this has something to do with PHP “safe_mode” being turned on by my host. Trying to figure that out now.
What do you mean “text not showing up on the buttons”? Can you post a screenshot? Maybe it’s just a browser or CSS thing.
He did post a link, but if you don’t want to click it: http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/8066/blankbutton.png
The button’s html value is blank. It’s not CSS.
Here’s the code to load the text for the button: https://trac.bbpress.org/browser/tags/0.9.0.4/bb-admin/class-install.php#L602
Sorry, I missed the image link.
(She) (I’m female.)
It’s not just that the text isn’t loading onto the button. It’s just not working at all. I can click on the untexted button after providing the correct db info. It can’t get past the 2nd step.
As if this guy’s problem isn’t bad enough, I’ve been through the install for the fourth time and when I try to go to the forum, at http://www.noseyparkernews.com/bb2/ I am always returned to the ‘Yada, yada, let’s get started’ page. I click on that button, and I get several hundred instances of this:
Warning: cannot yet handle MBCS in html_entity_decode()! in /homepages/19/d271430659/htdocs/Nosey/bb2/bb-includes/wp-functions.php on line 113
until it gets tired, and asks me to stop or continue the script. All the correct information is in bb-config.php, and the first step of the installation confirms that that is true.
I’m using WordPress 2.7.1, with a standard, off the shelf theme.
mizparker, you don’t have any idea how many people have that same problem. Either switch to php5 or wait for the next version of bbPress.
FWIW, there are 5065 instances of the error message before it gives up. I’m calling my hosting company to see if I can switch from a v 4 PHP to v 5 without a lot of hassle.
Thanks. I have extra domains, maybe I can just try it out on one of those.
