when i try to translate the language file in “my-plugins/bbpm/translations/bbpm.pot” the translation still stays the same.

How or where can i translate the plugin?

You need to process a translations file, google has many results on how to do that

Step 1: open google.com

Step 2: type in ‘bbpress process translation file “.pot” ‘

Step 3: click on the first link.

Step 4: do what it says

Step 5: ???

Step 6: Profit
