    @quilp

    WordPress version 5.8.1
    bbPress version, 2.6.6
    bbp user rankin 3.5

    link to site. http://www.kingdompen.org

    Theme: Divi Version: 4.12.0

We’ve been experiencing periodic site instability that is temporarily resolved by deactivating and reactivating bbpress plugins. Instability includes all site pages returning “No Results Found” and/or global header being stretched across half the page.

Error log is showing errors for bbp user ranking

    error log example:

[29-Oct-2021 14:34:43 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function bbp_get_user_topic_count_raw() in /home2/kingdqj0/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbp-user-ranking/includes/functions.php:63
    Stack trace:
    #0 /home2/kingdqj0/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbp-user-ranking/includes/functions.php(35): bur_display_counts(12415, ‘yes’)

    hmmm….

ok so the function bbp_get_user_topic_count_raw definately exists, so it is possibly a load order issue, but you would expect that to be consistent – or it is something else 🙂

intermittent issues are always hard to trace, can you recreate this, or how often is it happening, or it is happening to particular users (eg participant, subscriber) etc.

    Thank you.

The issue, when it occurs is site-wide. All pages except the home page get affected.

I’m not able to recreate or force the issue to recur. Once I deactivate all plugins and reactivate, the problem resolves and then recurs several hours to a couple of days later.

I’ve got an inquiry into Elegant Themes as well and am awaiting a response.

ok, so when it occurs it is site wide and to all users including yourself? and casual (non logged in) visitors?

    Yes.

I got a response from Elegant themes and they referred me back to bbpress without any suggestions.

Do you have any suggestions for what I can do the next time it happens to capture more info to help troubleshoot?

    Thank you

I would switch debug on – and see what errors you are getting

    https://wpforms.com/developers/how-to-enable-debugging-in-wordpress/

and see what error is occuring

Following up on recommendation to turn debug on.

    BBPress is now Version 2.6.8

With the most recent occurrence, I had debug mode on.

To recap, periodically the blog page, blog posts, and bbpress forum return “No Results Found”

Deactivating bbpress resolves the problem. bbpress can then be reactivated to restore forum functionality. Problem recurrs multiple times within a week.

The last two occurrences of the issue were 6 days apart. Nov 17 and this morning Nov 23rd.

That last one is simply a deprecation notice. It will not break anything.

    ok, so when this happens

    – is it to just one person, the same person, different people, all people accessing the site
    – is the site unusable, does it freeze, or is it just if they try to do something ?

    – is it to just one person, the same person, different people, all people accessing the site

it affects all people using the site. Except for the home page, all other pages return the “No Results found message”

    – is the site unusable, does it freeze, or is it just if they try to do something ?

The home page is accessible – the site does not “freeze,” but the blog page, all blog posts, the about page, the resources page and the forum simply display a “Results Not Found” message. If bbpress is deactivated, then all pages function properly again but, of course the forum does not. Reactivating bbpress restores forum functionality, but within a matter of days, the problem returns.

I don’t think it will make a difference, but try

dashboard>settings>permalinks and just click save – that just resets them

    @quilp

I’ll do that the next time the problem reoccurs to see if that clears the problem without deactivating bbpress.

Was there something in the debug log that led you to this recommendation, or was it just the description of the problem of “Results Not Found” ?

    Thank you!

    I’m just trying stuff !! 🙂

Intermittent problems are always hard to fix

Okay… this issue just recurred. Deactivating bbpress resolved the issue, but upon reactivating the issue immediately returned. Resetting permalinks resolved the issue independent of deactivating/reactivating bbpress.

Any idea of the root cause of the permalinks not working?
