404 error issue

hi,

We created a new forum for our law website and create section to test and then created a topic, but when we click on the related topic, it gives 404. Are we making a mistake somewhere?

try

dashboard>settings>permalinks and just click save – this resets the permalinks and often fixes this type of issue

i have changed to plain permalink and that worked. but this url type is not seo friendly. how can i fix that?

you should not need to change, just save the permalink you want

it could be a theme or plugin issue

Themes

As a test switch to a default theme such as twentyfifteen, and see if this fixes.

Plugins

If that doesn’t work, also deactivate all plugins apart from bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

If you cannot do this to your site (say because it is live) then use the ‘troubleshooting’ features of this plugin to let you test without affecting other users
