404 error for non logged in users

Hi,

I am a brand new user of bbpress. Setting up my first forum and I have created a Forum with topics etc and marked them all as Private. Obvioulsy when logged in as an admin I can navigate the forum no problem, so I tried loggin out and doing the same, I though the forum would say something like ‘Pleaase login to access the forum’ or something but it just throws up a 404 error, is this right or am I misunderstanding.

If you have the option for a Private Forum for Logged in users only, should I not be getting a option to login to use the Forum, instead of a 404 error.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your reply. So the Forums main page which isn’t set to private is this on https://www.shapemaster.co.uk/forums/forum/shapemaster-customer-forum/ but then then if you try and visit any of the topics, Equipment, Sectors or Support it throws the 404 Error.

ok,
so I think you have 2 choices

1. not show your forum page unless logged in. If all your forums will be private, then this is probably a good option.
You can create a forums page and then use a restriction plugin such as ‘restrict content’ to make this a login page – see https://usersinsights.com/wordpress-private-page/ and/or https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/wordpress-private-page/

2. you could use my ‘private groups’ plugin to do this, and still show that these forums exist
