RESOLVED: The plugin Auto Excerpt Everywhere was conflicting. Disabled and away we go!

No but it works fine in my other sites without it. I just created one as a copy of the page.php file and nothing changed.
Also, I changed to Twenty Fourteen and same problem.
thanks but it does in fact kill the page if I add text above the shortcode. My theme is Divi and I’m on the latest WP and all. Pretty generic actually.
