Thank very much for the link and for replying.
To answer your question, no, installing 0.9 did not mess up my 1.0 install; my 1.0 still works.
Any advice you have on installing 0.9 properly would be greatly appreciated!
I am using the same database table for both and am using the same prefixes for each table.
Judging by your questions, I assume this is a problem!
Can you tell me how to correct this, i.e., when and how to change the prefixes or use a different database table? I am very inexperienced with databases.

I am having the same problem: when a new user registers, bbpress says that a password has been sent to the email address the user specifies. BUT the email never comes!
I have tried the Instant Password plug-in mentioned above, but, as the developer states, it does not work for users of bbpress above .9, and I am using 1.0.2. (It says “password too short” even when it is above the required minimum 6 characters.)
Can anyone advise? I am frustrated that after customizing bbpress to fit my Web site all week, I am unable to use it since no one can register!

Thanks, but no, the sidebar still jumped to the bottom.
I ended up hiring someone and I think it did the trick…now I have to figure out what he did!
Thanks anyway though,
OK, I think I got it working. I hired someone to code it for me–now I have to figure out how he did it!
Thank you for your reply. The problem is, when I do what you suggest to widen the header, the sidebar gets pushed away to the bottom of the screen.
To explain better what I mean, here are two screenshots.
My header is only 75% of the way across:
What happens when I extend the header:
Again, I would be willing to hire someone to make the fix in the css.
