In reply to: bbPress 2.2.4 Released
David, thanks for the tip on moving a topic from one forum to the other. I found that I also have to make a new post to the “to” forum as well as the “from” forum, in order to get them both to show the correct number of posts in each.
The /forums/ page indicates that the moved topic is still in the old forum, and not in the new. Further, going into the old (from) forum, I see “there is one topic in this forum” but none listed. Similarly, going into the new (to) forum, I see “there are no topics…” and yet the topic I moved in there is listed. Creating (and then deleting) a new “test” topic in each causes the issue to be corrected in all listing pages.
It’s a rather frustrating work-around, but at least it solves the problem I was having. I am using version 2.4 now, and it’s still an issue. Hoping that might be resolved in the next release or so.
Thanks! I’ll go with the latter. I’ll be testing it on a site that I only just started, so if I hose it I can easily rebuild. Using cpanel and phpmyadmin actually sounds a lot safer, and I do know how to do that.
Much appreciated!
Hi again, Spence. I had another question… You mentioned in your video that it is a good idea to use something other than “admin” as the main admin username, and I have heard that elsewhere and agree. Is there a way to safely change that username? Basic WP install indicates that a username cannot be changed (at least admin cannot), but I wondered if there is a plugin that could facilitate this? Or should I just wipe-and-replace? Thanks!
Thanks for the reply! As I read more about these, that stuff is starting to become more clear. I need to learn a lot more about how to use BuddyPress. bbPress is pretty straightforward — it’s a BBS running inside WordPress. The introduction of Groups with BP adds a whole new nulti-dimension to it all. Cool stuff!
Gotta catch some of your other vids now.
In reply to: Great WordCamp last weekendWell, I’m really glad they got you on the schedule. Some of the other talks were very informative, I’m sure, but left me feeling like I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Yours was both informative and encouraging — a GREAT way to end the day and leave me with a positive attitude for the drive home. Hope you can be at more of these in this area. 🙂
Thanks, Spence, you’re a stitch! I LOVE resources like this! Full of great tips that I never would have worked out on my own.
If anyone has a moment to answer a newbie question, I’m just getting started with BuddyPress and bbPress, and am not yet clear on the difference between “Forums” and “Sitewide Forums”. What’s up with that?
