In reply to: Import from phpBB
Hi OC2PS again, I tried the converter with changing the version to 2.0.2 which matches my BBpress latest version and it did seem to work this time! However, it is weird how you can’t see it doing anything and then after awhile I hit refresh and check and it converted.
However, I’ve had this problem before and I’m not sure what could be this problem. Everything seems to convert great with users and forum structure, even the forum counts. However, my topics don’t show up within the forums. Within my topics, it shows that they are not connected to any forum. So I have about 500 some pages of topics not attached to anything.
Do you know or have any idea what I could be doing wrong that is not pulling the topics over to their respective forum??
I’m so close to getting this!
I’ve even thought to go through 500 pages of topics and put them in their forums. I am that desperate! But I know better than to work that hard but also I don’t know where these topics really belong or I would consider it.
Help?
In reply to: Import from phpBBHEy shooo! I think I saw you posting on the other thread about the other phpBB converter from AWJunkies. I feel your pain, looks like we are in the same boat of no luck in getting our phpBB forums converted.
It appears this converter is the one to troubleshoot as it seems that others here have had success.
shooo, I haven’t seen what you just posted because I never got that far. Mine would just say that database failed and then would say conversion was not supported.
Thanks OC2PS! I’m going to go look at that link that you provided. I’ll report back if any luck or for more begging….
In reply to: Import from phpBBdingles and OC2PS I’m having this very same exact problem.
BBPress has a converter but I cannot get anything to work right there and no one seems to be around to help me directly with my issue. I’ve been trying to get my forum converted for a month and a half now. I’m at my wits end.
So I’m coming back to Orson’s plugin in last desperate attempt to try once again even though I’ve always gotten the same conversion failed messages.
Dingles, could you share in more detail what you did to get it to work?
Or OC2PS if you figured it out?
I would be forever indebted!!!
Dianna
Hi djoep, the converter would be awesome, but I had actually tried the manual instructions that you wrote up here in this thread. I got a good ways through it but then got stuck.
Hi djoep, are you meaning me that you tried to email about my SMF forum or are you talking the AWJunkies?
If you mean me, I never received it and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to contact you about how you converted your SMF forum. I’ll email you now to touch base with you. I originally have an SMF forum and had converted it to phpBB and waited on this phpBB converter. But I’m just having no luck and not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve thought of going back to the SMF forum and looking your instruction over again.
I hope you don’t if I contact you and try it again. Thx!
IF AWJunkies/Alex did make the SMF converter next, that might very well solve my problems so I’m not double converting to get it to bbpress.
ETA: djoep, your profile doesn’t have an email in it. I tried your site link but it doesn’t seem to be a working website anymore. My email is dianna@diannamangus.com if you would or want to contact to help me with the my SMF conversion. I did get pretty close with it, so I’m sure it’s just something stupid that I’m not doing correctly.
Hey you guys, it wont’ let me edit my post above or I would add to it, but upon further review of my config file, it appears to be okay. But what I’m seeing is that when I try to do the conversion, it seems to be created a new username under the database for each conversion attempt. I’m continuing to troubleshoot, but if anyone knows offhand anything that is glaringly stupid, simple or clear that you see that is obvious on what I’m doing wrong, let me know. Thanks so much in advance! I will figure this out if it’s the last thing that I do.
Hey you guys, been away for a bit and was excited to see the phpBB conversion being added to the list of converters. Thank you so much Alex and congratulations on the marriage!
I have a problem that I haven’t seen anyone mention yet so I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong. I’m trying to run my conversion and I’m getting the “exceeded 75000 questions” and so I was going to have to keep trying to run it every hour to finally get it all converted.
HOWEVER, I keep getting an odd end result after I get the screen with the error messages that it will then take me to my login page but it’s the 5 minutes wordpress installation option and it asks me for my login info and then it says page not found.
My forum is at http://www.mywebsite/forum
My wordpress site is at http://www.mywebsite/blog
After converstion it will send me to http://www.mywebsite/blog/wp-admin/install.php
If I put in my old info to the wordpress login it will kick out another list of the conversion errors.
I’m not sure if I’m having root directory problems or something going on with the conversion. I’ll keep looking but does anyone know immediately off hand what I’ve got going wrong or what it could be?
It’s weird.
ETA: I just found that the conversion has changed my wp-config file settings for the database name, dbase username and password. It looks like it puts in some generic settings that you guys have. Here’s what my config says…
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wrd_kk3k2nhle4’);
/** MySQL database username */
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘tsupport’);
/** MySQL database password */
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘123456’);
Should I try to find a certain converter file and change this default setting within that file? The converter must not have taken my settings that I put into the form provided to do the conversion.
Hi Chrisella, I gave it one more college try on that Forumconverter plugin and it even mentioned needing to use bbpress 2.0 rc4 version. I installed the older version of BBpress but still no go. I’m getting stuck when I get a 500 internal server error and I believe I’m timing out.
When I get the error page after about 2 minutes of conversion, it then makes me log into my wordpress installation as if it’s trying to install itself. I put my login info as it asks and it then gives me a long list of the errors that occurred. It does say “…… has exceeded the ‘max_questions’ resource (current value: 75000)].
When I go to my forum, I do have the forum and topics, but no actual posts. So close yet so far.
If I knew how to further fix my timeout issue, I may try to call my web-hosting to see if they could guide me on the issue or maybe give me more conversion time just for this issue…I’m just grasping at straws.
If no luck on this last attempt with calling my web-hosting, I’m at the mercy of AWJunkies guys for when they have time to possibly finish the plugin for a phpBB conversion. They will totally make my day.
I’ve pretty much tried every route one can possibly try to get my forum over to bbpress. I’ll just wait with crossed fingers and toes.
chrisella, I’m at the phpbb3 to bbpress converter notes on the phpbb3 support forum and the gentlemen writing the code has mentioned passwords and something to do with MD5 hashing. I don’t know what that means, but there is a link to some coding to correct the problem with passwords. Not sure if that is what you may need, but take a look.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/phpbb3-gt-bbpress-converter-beta-release
The password plugin they mention is at:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/md5-insecurity-for-bbpress/
ebiznet….bated breathe, that’s it. LOL!
I tried this route going from phpBB to bbpress 1.0 standalone and I cannot remember what stumbling block that I encountered. I’ve tried so many routes but every one has an issue.
I’m going to try it again right now as we speak. Chrisella, if you figure out the password issue, if you don’t mind post it, in case I have the same issue. I’m going to retry right now.
Hi ebiznet88, I agree, it does seem phpBB is the most commonly used board. In my attempts to try to get my conversion done, I looked into Invision and vBulletin to see if I could get my SMF or phpBB versions of my forum over into Invision or vBulletin and then use the converter. I’ve tried everything.
For those who have SMF, the conversion over to phpBB is very easy and clean cut and no issues. It’s a plugin for phpBB from their site that you use. I had no problems. So if the phpBB converter comes out, those who have a SMF forum like I did, can convert to phpBB and then use this converter for bbpress.
Yes, I totally agree with you.
I’m waiting with baited breath (or whatever that expression is…LOL)
So excited to see it come out if they (Adam, AWJunkies and/or whoever else is working on it) are able to have time to work on it.
I would be very indebted to them!
Let me also tag along on the latest thank yous. I’m so excited about this converter and hoping desperately that the phpbb converter will come out really soon.
I have an SMF forum and tried with some of the notes on this thread but with no luck. I got a bit lost in the notes of it. I’ve been working for a few days straight trying to get something figured out to get this client’s forum into bbpress.
I’ve converted my SMF forum into a phpBB forum. There is another WP plubin for phpBB to BBpress conversion, but it’s in huge beta mode I believe. I’m able to pull everything but the actual posts themselves. So close but yet so far.
So I have 2 forums ready for whichever way that I can find the first available options to convert.
If anyone has fine tuned the SMF conversion as well, let me know.
I’ve tried everything I can and keep running into issues.
I’ve been watching this forum for a few days now for updates.
This is great stuff! Can’t wait to get my hands on the phpbb conversion option.
Thank you so so so so much in advance!
