Altering pagination output in bbpress 2.0

How can I alter the output of the pagination template tag? Specifically bbp_topic_pagination_links();

From the source, it appears not to accept any parameters directly.

Alternatively, is there a way to use the WP-Page Navi plugin instead if this is not editable?

I know this is pretty old, but just in case someone else is looking, use the filter hook ‘bbp_get_topic_pagination_links’ to alter the output.
