migrating from simple:press to bbpress

    @ammalgam

    Just a heads up to some of you.

    I ran the import under Tools > Forum and it kept on telling me it had imported 0 users, 0 topics etc

    I spent 1 hour looking up reasons why.

    FINALLY, I actually CHECKED the /forums link to see if it actually worked and it had! It just told me it hadn’t.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Hmm, ok, thanks for informing us !
    Pascal.

    Thats a little weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I’ve really got nothing if you were shown that 0 topics were imported etc, the same system is shared across ~25 different forum packages and I’ve never seen that reported before 🙁

    Hello Ammalgam,

    There is other way for importing topics into bbPress if you have RSS feeds from simplepress. That is using WPPipes and Auto Importing Topics into bbPress add-on.

    Hopefully it could be a good suggestion for you!

    @stephen edgar – it was weird. I ran the job in a staging environment. Very bizarre but it happened.

    @rolling
    stone I then ran the job in my production environment and it failed. My hosting company is WPEngine and they had to turn off the script timeout from the backend and it worked like a champ.

    Even running 10 rows at a time with a 5 second delay was failing. It would go to 80 rows and then fail because of the timeout.

    When they turned off the timeout, I was able to do 600 rows at a time just fine.

    It seems like it’s really important to work with your hosting company to help with this. I only had a small forum with about 2500 topics. I can’t imagine what a huge forum must be doing to some folks.

    Once again, hope that helps.
