Making a Forum ‘Member Only’

We have a site hosted at nationalbraille.org that uses WooCommerce memberships to make certain areas of our site accessible only to members. Additionally, we have bbforums installed and the forums are publicly visible, but only can be posted in by active members.

I was hoping to create a new forum that was only visible to members. I applied the same membership privileges that other member-only pages have, but the forum is still visible to the public.

Am I attempting something that isn’t possible?

Use my private groups plugin to achieve this

Thanks Robin. We have quite a few plugins installed already and I’d prefer to attempt it without installing more. Is there no way to do this with the native bbpress and Woo applications?

    Use bbPress’ “Private Forums”:
    * Private – Only logged in registered users with a forum role can see these forums

Thanks Stephen. I was toying with that setting a bit yesterday as well. I don’t love that the word ‘Private’ shows up in the title, though. That’s why I was attempting to use the already in place Woo member access. I’ll keep playing!

Use this to get rid of that silly Private prefix 🙂

p.s. We’ll get that removed from bbPress and/or WordPress proper one of these days ;P
