By default, the URL for a forum is:

http://www.mysite.com/forums/forum/forum-name/

I would like it to be:

http://www.mysite.com/forums/forum-name/

However, if I simply blank the forum slug in Settings > Forums, I get:

http://www.mysite.com/forums//forum-name/

The second slash gets stripped out, and I get a Not Found page.

The closest I’ve been able to find to a solution is to uncheck the “Prefix your forum area with the Forum Base slug” box, to get the opposite effect, but that has a “recommended” next to it so I’m antsy about unchecking it.

Is the behavior I want possible in bbPress?

As you stated

That will give you mysite.com/forum/forum-name

i.e. NOT /forums/ but the value you give the ‘forum slug’

Morgan, can you make your url “http://www.mysite.com/forum/forum-name/” ?

Anyway I have to ask you WHY would you want to change the url since it will not affect your SERP neither your rankings but could also cause you troubles such as 404 errors, other indexing issues ?!
