Increase max topic length?

We are running into an issue where very long topics are not submitting. The page just refreshes and the post is still sitting in input field with no error message to indicate what happened (or didn’t in this case). I checked Akismet and see no indication that it is being caught there unless it’s just being blocked right out without warning? Could this be a max character count somewhere? If so how do we increase it?

can you define ‘very long’ please

It’s not uncommon for those in our community/forum to want to post things that are 5,000 – 17,000 characters. We’d like to mimic fb’s 63,206 character limit if at all possible. We’d need that for replies as well. Right now we’re seeing that users cannot post a reply with ~2,400 characters.

Update to this, it doesn’t seem to be strictly character count that is causing this. Someone was able to post a topic of 14,400 characters yesterday (although I’m assuming replies and topics may have different character limits?). It also seems to be blocked people from posting short replies with images. Any insight here?

Another update, this also seems to be happening somewhat randomly. Admins are also having trouble posting a topic in groups at random. Getting “You cannot reply to this topic” even with topics on 1258 characters.

maybe worth a discussion with your host provider – ‘random’ can relate to performance/timeouts etc.

    also look in

dashboard>topics to see if the topic is held as pending

also check how many links are in a topic that is not posting – the number is set in dashboard>settings>discussion>comment moderation, or that you don’t have blacklisted words in the text.

also check if you are using a spam plugin that that is not filtering.
