how to make a private forum

we are a a small company we need a forum to communicate better than mail groups

i suggested to use a forum

but we don’t want any others to see what we are doing

i need to

1. prevent user registration

2. make the forum private

is there is plug-ins for the ?

what other simple foruming systems if there isn;t plug-ins
