On my forum page, forum categories are listing fine.

How can I make the fora which are part of those categories appear under those categories on the forum page? Have searched online for a solution, but no joy.

I think you mean this

bbp style pack

once activated go to

dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>Forum Templates

and select the alternative template
