Different language UIs for different users?

Many of my members are Japanese. Is there a way of offering a per-member UI language option. So, for example, English speaking users will see “Post” and Japanese users would see “書き込む” (post in Japanese in the UI?

Barring that, is there an easy way for me to edit the string resources to make them bilingual, in a way which won’t get lost during an upgrade?

    Thanks,

    doug

“WordPress does not support a bilingual or multilingual blog out-of-the-box. There are however Plugins developed by the WordPress community which will allow you to create a multilingual blog easily.”

    Hi, Netweb.

I did notice that link before, but it seemed it was about changing the site to a different language, rather than supporting multiple language UIs on one site (different language UIs shown to different members).

Are you saying if I install the extra languages there are plugins which might do this?

    Thanks,

Sorry, posted the wrong link ;) though it is still useful:

The current state of bbPress language translations are here:

That looks interesting. I will read it over in more detail.

I’m not really concerned with multilingual content as much as I am in having user’s see the user interface itself in their own language.

I think users will participate in forums in the languages they understand and there is no real point in making the actual forums content multilingual (except for system notices, which can just post a single post in two language).

    Thanks,
