I search around the forums and found a patch that allows sub-categories but it is for the older 0.8 version and was wondering if there is anything available for the newer 0.9 version.

Hmm, I’m not sure what you mean. 0.9 supports sub-forums already… and I believe 1.0 supports categories and sub-categories (i.e. non forum categories).

What was the patch you found?

0.9 supports subforums, but in 1.0 categories are built in. To me, a category is a parent forum that does not allow posts. It’s not built in to anything but the 1.0 alphas right now.

This plugin states that it works up to 0.9.0.2:
