Can we close a forum, but allow people to reply to existing topics?

    Hi,
I have one forum where I’d like only admins to be able to add new topics. But, I’d still like everyone to be able to reply to existing topics.

Is this possible? If so, how? Closing a forum closes it for replies too. I’ve found a few references to old plugins that can do this, but they don’t seem to work any more.

    install

    Private groups

    then see

    dashboard>settings>bbp private groups>help

for how to set it up

    and

    dashboard>settings>bbp private groups>topic permissions

in essence set up a group called say ‘fred’

assign the forum to the group ‘fred’

assign your users to the group ‘fred’

    Then enable topic permissions

set the forum topic permissions for users to only be able to reply

Admins can then post topics but users only reply

    Thanks @robin-w,

Nice to see that your plugin is being updated.

Is there a default group that all users are added to? The particular forum that I want to restrict is one that everyone must be able to see and have access to. Having to manually add every new user to the right group wouldn’t work.

you can use the ‘assign groups to roles’ tab to assign WordPress roles such as subscriber to a group on login

    Thanks.

While it does work, it’s a rather round-about way to achieve what should be a very simple task. The private groups plugin is overkill for my use-case.

    Anyway, it works.
