I suspect this is to do with your import, not a bug in the count
The counters were correct with the import.
As I updated “Recount replies in each forum” the name of the Posts has changed and has become the same as that of Topics
not sure I can help further – would require a deep delve into your website
I also tried with a test site that I have and if I click on “Recount the answers in each forum” the number of posts has become the same as that of the Topics …
just run it on my test site, and the counts stay as they should
I also noticed that if I marry a topic, the counters do not change and it remains counted in the old Forum and not in the New.
If you want by email I will send you the data of my site (closed) so you can check.
I was then able to import from vbulletin to bbpress. As soon as I have time I will write how I have done that will be of use to many.
