Hey I am using BBPress, BBPress Notifications (No Spam), and User Role Editor.
I want to make it so that when a new topic is posted in a certain forum, only certain members get a notification based on where it was posted.

I have tried to hack this together but have been unable to get conclusive results, so any tips or help will be much appreciated.

I am using the private groups plugin for this. The plugin lets you restrict certain topics to the members of a group. If you want your topic available for all forum users to see, but you only want certain users to be notified, then the private groups plugin will likely not work. Unfortunately I want all users to be able to see the forum.
As of now I have user groups set up that correspond with certain topics post-Id’s.

When I use the $post->post_parent; or the $post->$post_Id; commands and compare it against a list of the current topics post Id’s it will never match with one of them.
