This is probably the dumbest question of the week but in this forum I notice some of the more active users have avatars. Do you have to be a member for a certain time to upload your own avatar?

No. You need to sign up at gravatar.com for a gravatar. Use the same email there that you registered with here, and it will appear automatically. No minimum time or anything like that.

There is no “upload” here. The avatars are pulled from gravatar.com
