Maybe you should use another plugins such as “Members” or “User Role Editor”.
Just maybe you can merge between forums index page and user profile page and if I’m not mistaken it’s page-front-forums.php and single-user.php

I believe that this process can only be done by manual process, there aren’t easy way to do this.
If you ask more, you can use direct database editing. But that would add more problem.
Thanks for the share, based on my experience I use both of ‘Members’ plugin and ‘User Role Editor’ plugin when managing a role capabilities.
Then at the end it only use ‘Members’ plugin. I found ‘User Role Editor’ plugin much easy to manage/editing a role.
I’m thinking to merge the WP + BuddyPress + bbPress, but just maybe it still need more time until everything is smooth in integration.

Finally I found a way to have direct http://themessupport.com/ as forum index, although the “/forums/” still exist but it redirected to frontpage http://themessupport.com/
