For those who care, I have narrowed this down to a conflict with the WooCommerce plugin. When the WooCommerce plugin is deactivated the group forums work properly. When WooCommerce is activated the group forum topics pagination is broken.
Does anybody know why this might be happening?
Unfortunately, WooCommerce is one of those plugins that does not have an alternative–and I can’t deactivate it because it’s an essential part of my site.
Has this issue been addressed? Having the same problem and it’s annoying.
I had the same problem and took a chance on this plugin that had zero feedback:

I ran it on all 4700 of my members with one click. After a couple minutes the plugin said it couldn’t change anything because all the usernames matched the display names.
BUT… whatever it did, it FIXED the 404 errors! Now, all my users that have spaces in their names are taken to a profile page like this /john-smith/ instead of this /JohnSmith/.

I have been searching for a solution to the username with spaces 404 error and can’t find one. I just imported over 4000 users from my old Invision forum into bbPress and about half of them have spaces in their names and get the 404 error on their profiles.
Is it really a 7 year old problem that hasn’t been fixed yet!?!?
