Hi,
I know this post comes late but this can help.
I had the same issue and could not import as nothing was found in the PunnBB database.
Finally, I could do the import locally:
– export punBB database from distant host
– import to MAMP database1
– export WordPress database from distant host
– import to MAMP database2
– install WordPress localy
– run the importer
It worked great
