where to attribute content when deleting a user

    Hi there,
    A forum user just asked me to delete their account. As per GDPR regulations, I must therefore do this.
    My only issue is that he has posted on the forum, and now i have to decide who to attribute the content to.
    I decided to make it myself, but this looks confusing as there is a forum thread which has nothing to do with me.
    Question: What is good practice here? Who should i attribute content to?

    There is no standard

    I just set up a user called ‘deleted user’ with a fictitious email address, and assign content to that

    Don’t know if this is possible, but create a user called “Deleted User” and assign all these deleted user’s content to this user.
    This will fake statistics, so there should be a special user or role to do this, e.g. trashed user’s content.
    Just writing down my thoughts. Sorry for that 😉

    thx. I think this is the way to go.
    Now that i have assigned myself this deleted users account content, can i reassign it without deleting my account?

    @haddly I can’t see any easy way to reassign content, given that you have already assigned it to yourself

    Ahh well. I jumped the gun there a little.
    Any future deleted users content though will be be reassigned to “deleted_user”.

    The easiest would modify the post_author in wp_posts table in the database.

    Do not know if this will break anything, have done it like this several times, has worked for me.
