No forum visible after import phpbb

I’m sure I’m missing something obvious but… I imported my phpbb forum and it appeared to work, then went through the ‘repair’ steps. I see no front end forum. Do I have to change something else?

I didn’t import users because I’m really just trying to save the old forum posts for archival and reference purposes – I don’t want all the old users in the new forum.

    That possible?

    1. do you see it all in the backend?
    2. what exactly have you set up to enable you seeing them in the front end, and exactly what are you seeing when you try to access the front end?

Well, keep in mind that I’m learning as I go here. I have three wp sites – one is public and two are development sites in separate directories in the public folder. I’m testing the import on one of the development sites.

I see three different WP databases and in wp_hzue_posts I see posts from the imported forum in my development site.

On my front end forum page I set up a test forum prior to the import and there I see nothing. I’m guessing I have to change something else.

On my live WP site I have three forums that I don’t want to change but I’d like to add a fourth with the imported posts. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I had to start over with the forum on the live site – it’s new and there’s not much there yet.

ok, do you see the forums and posts in

    dashboard>forums or dashboard>topics or dashboard>replies ?

What I see are 0 forums, 1 topic, 7,605 replies. And in the repair tab I seem to get hung up on ‘recalculate the position of each reply’ tool. I walk away and come back to a 404 page so I’m not sure exactly what happened.

In my forum widget ‘most recent replies’ I’ll see replies from the imported forum – but no forum or topic.

I didn’t select ‘convert users’ when I imported. Wasn’t certain what would happen and I didn’t want to add a bunch of old users to the new site.

sounds like the import didn’t go quite right, suggest you backtrack and import again.

Yup. I’ll see what happens on the next go-around and post anything I learn. Thanks.

Hmmm. Decided to use the “Purge all information…” selection. Been deleting for a day, over 650K lines, which is much larger than the database I’m trying to import. Is it possible this routine could be in some sort of loop? Where is all this info that’s being deleted? Will it cause a problem if I stop this purge routine and try to import again?

I noticed over 400K rows in the original forum search_wordlist table, which I’ve cleared out. Hopefully that will help once I get back to importing.

(Pigs get top billing over the sheep?)

pigs commit suicide less often than sheep !

Can’t answer your question, as I’ve not done an import. is the database _posts table moving – bbpress uses custom posts, so this is the one that should be changing.

I don’t even know what to say about the sheep…

Now it appears the replies are importing but not the forums. Here’s the message I got:
    _______
    Repair any missing information: Continue

WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘forums.forum_topics’ in ‘field list’]
    SELECT convert(forums.forum_id USING “utf8”) AS forum_id,convert(forums.parent_id USING “utf8”) AS parent_id,convert(forums.forum_topics USING “utf8”) AS forum_topics,convert(forums.forum_posts USING “utf8”) AS forum_posts,convert(forums.forum_topics_real USING “utf8”) AS forum_topics_real,convert(forums.forum_name USING “utf8”) AS forum_name,convert(forums.forum_desc USING “utf8”) AS forum_desc,convert(forums.left_id USING “utf8”) AS left_id,convert(forums.forum_type USING “utf8”) AS forum_type,convert(forums.forum_status USING “utf8”) AS forum_status FROM forums_forums AS forums LIMIT 0, 100

    No forums to convert

After clicking ‘start’ again, the import continued adding topics.
This is taking up way too much of my life (and yours). I may just have to leave this for another time or figure out how to just make the original pbpbb forum available separate from the WP site.

I also get this: WordPress database error: [Table ‘sudnowco_sudnow.topics’ doesn’t exist]

The db is sundown_sudnow the table is actually forums_topics and I did enter forums_ as the table prefix.

And there’s a odd little icon next to the start/stop button (when it says ‘stop’) that looks like a piece of paper torn in half.

So now all the replies have been imported and the import is just hanging (as far as I can tell).

    @robin-w

hmmm…importing is not my strong point, but getting the table names is obviouslh key and something is not right.

Not sure what to suggest next.

Sheep are very stupid animals and seem to find ways to get into trouble at every opportunity ! Hence the suicide comment.
