“BuddyPress will transform a vanilla installation of WordPress MU into a social network platform.”

I think they’re using the term “vanilla” to mean “plain.” In other words, any standard installation of WordPress MU can be turned into a social network platform.

Vanilla, the forum software, doesn’t have anything to do with it, as far as I know.

I’ve never used it but from what I can tell BuddyPress is more like LiveJournal than a forum based system where there are community blogs. It doesn’t actually have forum code.

BuddyPress is a social networking addon for WPMU. It does not have a built-in forum, and it will not be replacing bbPress. Vanilla in this context just means plain.

    alright i got it, thanks

i dont know why the use the term vanilla

Because vanilla is jargon for plain or standard.

bbPress will probably be used to augment BuddyPress’ groups with forums. It’s a complimentary product, not a replacement.
