This is a problem with parse_url() dying when there is an http:// in the querystring. The latest commit in branches/0.9 fixes this problem, which would only occur when trying to add a new topic when not logged in.

So I deactivated the plugins. One at a time and retested and retested with both unplugged and it still wouldn't post a new topic from the "home" page of the forum.

This still only appears to be an issue of posting from the home page? Is it possible that the "add new topic" link on the home page is tied to a forum that doesn't exist anymore?

How does bbpress decide which forum to put a new topic into when it is started from the home page? Does it give you a drop down box to pick the forum?

thanks.

hmm, well, I'm not worried about it breaking my theme, it's my rss feed that I have on my main page. I have the forum's rss feed showing as html on my main page of my site. And, the other day someone made a post with "===========================" in it just to break up their post. They weren't trying to mess things up, they were just making a long post and wanted to break it up.

ANYWAY, long story short, it caused my main page to look all messed up because the =========================== pushed outside of my main div. I already have everything in a wrapper and in a fixed width table, so I don't know how that was able to push everything out, but it did.

So, if I add {overflow:hidden;} to my style sheet for my main page, do you think that will still solve my problem?

I would be nice if there was a plugin that would allow you to block posts if someone uses the same character more than 10 times in a row for example....

wilcosky, I don't know a plugin that does this, but if you're worried about a string like aaaaabbbbbbbbb "breaking your theme", you can just apply a CSS overflow to the post class. This theme actually does so with this code:
.post {overflow:hidden;}

Hello,

I'm looking for a plug in that will block posts if the post contains multiple characters in a row. For example, if someone puts

"=========================================="

or

It's been the same 1.5 plugin all along - I've de/re-activated it a few time, and still no joy. Is there any way to clear from the DB what it might be storing, so I can start again from scratch? Maybe the way 2.5.1 and 0.9.0.2 integrate has confused it compared to the older versions.

Have a look in /bb-includes/formatting-functions.php

If there is a filter, you should be able to find it in there.

From there, have a look in template-functions.php and see if it is applying the filter to the post.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, also look in the default-filters.php file.

It does sound like it's a filter in bbPress then, and TinyMCE is not at fault. Not sure where that happens in bbPresss, but I would think looking at the "Admin can post anything" plugin might offer some clues.

Chris - thanks for the response.

With the admin can post anything plugin enabled it works fine (both through WYSIWYG and through the standard text area.

So I guess that means it's a filter in BBPress. I can't figure out why it is happy with stuff like background-color: but not color:

I think you might have better luck at the TinyMCE forum. It's not a bbPress problem, (unless it's a filter stripping out the tags) but something TinyMCE is doing with your span tags.

http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/punbb/

I suspect though that it's got to do with the rules for span elements. The XHTML ruleset allows
style
but I'm not sure why it strips out the color. Or, are you filtering this through something in bbPress that would strip that out? (in WordPress, I think kses handles that.) Can you post spans with a color style as administrator? How about the 'admin can post anything' plugin?

http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/admin-can-post-anything/

If the admin can post the
<span style="color: #ff0000;">
, WYSIWYG or not, then it's likely a filter in bbPress that is stripping that code out.

I've written a WYSIWYG plugin for my BBPress install. It replaces the standard textarea with the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor based on an option in the user profile.

I've incorporated code from Michael D Adams' 'Allow Images' plugin and extended it a little to include paragraph <p> tags and <span> tags.

Everything is working fine, except for one issue that is driving me mad.

When a span with color set in it's style attribute set, the color: gets stripped out. For example <span style="color: #ff0000;"> becomes <span style="">.

I can't figure this out for the life of me! Other CSS attributes are fine, for example text-align:, background-color:, text-decoration: all work fine.

I've tried the following two bits of code with no success:

1. $tags['span'] = array('style' => array());
2. $tags['span'] = array('style' => array('color' => array()));

Does anyone know if there is a way I can modify this behavior?

This is my first attempt at a plugin, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious here!

Thanks,
Rick

Does anyone know why Thomas Klaiber's Simple Online list ( http://thomasklaiber.com/bbpress/simple-onlinelist/ ) won't work with 0.9.0.2 / 2.5.1 ? Are there any other alternatives, apart from _ck_'s unreleased one I've seen mention of?

Thanks,

I've seen this issue posted on multiple threads, but I couldn't find the solution in any of them. my issue is simple: I want to hide children forums and only display parent forums on the main page of my site. My theme uses the following code to display the forum list:

<?php foreach ( $forums as $forum ) : ?>

<tr<?php alt_class('forum'); ?>>
<td>"><?php forum_name(); ?> — <small><?php forum_description(); ?></small></td>
<td class="num"><?php forum_topics(); ?></td>
<td class="num"><?php forum_posts(); ?></td>
</tr>

<?php endforeach; ?>

What should I change?

bbSync would be fine however I want to import RSS feeds from blogs other than mine. Importing from my WordPress blog just won't do it.

I thought about possibly using feedwordpress plugin to pull the topics into wordpress then use bbSync to pull the topics into bbPress but...... that's getting pretty ugly and I really don't want to pull external feeds into my blog......

Would prefer to find a plugin which I can just point at a feed and it will create new topics into a forum of my choice (per rss feed).

Well, I did test bbpress before I used the plugins and everything appeared to work. But I'm not sure if I tested that specific function?

Would it be a good idea to remove the plugins and retest, then set up the plugins again?

I'm trying to decide how big an issue this is?

I have heard of WordPress widgets being used to show the latest bbPress entries in a blog, but nothing I know of that will create a new entry in bbPress from an RSS feed.

Could you use bbSync to follow the RSS items that are imported into WordPress to create the new bbPress topics?
http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bbsync/

Or, would RSS2HTML help at all (it wouldn't make new topics in bbPress)?

Hi,

I want to convert from my phpBB forum to bbPress however I need 1 more plugin to make it happen.

I need a Plugin for bbPress which will monitor RSS feed's and post new items into bbPress as a post.

Does anyone know of a free plugin which does this today?

For Wordpress, I'm using the Plugin - FeedWordpress
URL - http://projects.radgeek.com/feedwordpress/

It works great and has many great options. Hopefully something exists for bbPress.

Thanks!

So I have intergrated bbpress into our website and it seems to be working pretty well. I used two plugins "private forums" and "approved registration", which has also worked well.

A couple posters pointed out to me an issue today? The "add new topic" link pulls up the form to add a topic... but when you "send post" it gives an error message:

"This topics has been closed"

The only way for users to add a new topic is to choose the forum they want to add it to and then scroll down and use the form on the forums page. It works and with the small number of users is ok... but hopefully the number of users grow, which it will become an issue.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a fix?

Here's the link to the bbpress on our site: http://www.ditschfitness.com/forum/

thanks
