zaerl Visibility adds the possibility to hide/lock forums/topics/profiles. Forums or single topics can be hidden/locked for specific roles and/or for a list of users. Profiles pages can be hidden for specific roles and/or for a list of users.

An hidden forum/post doesn't show on pages and RSS.

A locked forum is closed to new topics.

A locked topic is closed to new replies which is different from the built-in "closed" status that deny the possibility of replying to all users.

An hidden profile page can't be accessed.

You can specify super users and super roles that aren't affected by all other rules.

Nice plugin, but when you lock a topic for members. They see the text: New topic in this forum (or something like that) Maybe you can hide that message too?

  4. No. It is hardcoded in the theme. But you can specify replacement messages in the admin panel (/bb-admin/admin-base.php?plugin=za_vi_configuration_page). I have provided this feature in order to give the user an advice regarding current configuration. I use these:

Topic: This forum is locked. You can't add new topics.
Post: Sorry but you can't reply to this topic.
Tag: You can't add new tags.

i'm just wondering if there any way to prevent members to reply on locked topics !! i mean topics to be read only ,

    Thanks

  6. Locked topics are actually read-only topics for all those users/roles that you have specified. If you want to lock or hide a single post open the post page and then scroll to the bottom. On the so called "admin menu" you will find a custom link called "[Modify Hide/Lock Status]". Once clicked you will be redirected the the post hide/lock panel. Here you can modify the post visibility.

  8. The new 0.1.4 is an important bug-fix release. Update the plugin as soon as you can.

  11. Thanks so much! It's amazing!

You know which plugin could use a rewrite?

All the plugins that deal with quoting AND this archaic one from _ck_ - http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/110
The latter needs an admin UI badly - but I would use it right away :)

  12. Zaerl - currently, the behavior is such that anyone clicking on the start new thread button without the proper privileges just gets a refresh of the page.

Is there any way to implement an error message for them that they can't start new threads in the forum. Maybe a lightbox-like pop-out?

  13. Zaerl - currently, the behavior is such that anyone clicking on the start new thread button without the proper privileges just gets a refresh of the page.

It is a design choice. These are the choices:

    1) My choice
    2) Hiding the "Add New Topic" button
    3) The error message

I am considering to hide the button. I don't like the error idea.

  14. That's interesting. I've thought about this as well and have realized that many users will wonder (and perhaps even get frustrated) when they can't find the button to create that new topic in the forum. I guess hiding the button may warrant some kind of an explanation about why they can't find the button...

  15. Let's take this example. I have only one forum called "test."

If I go to /forum/test the "Add New »" link isn't displayed which is a good thing for me. Now I go on /bb-admin/admin-base.php?plugin=za_vi_configuration_page and I specify a replacement message for new topics. The message is "You can't start new topics". This is the result. Is this misleading for the user?

    Posted: 2 years ago #
  16. No, THAT is not misleading at all. In fact, that's a perfect solution in my opinion.

    Posted: 2 years ago #
  17. So I dont' understand. You got a place where the "Add New »" link is displayed despite the fact that the forum is locked?

    Posted: 2 years ago #
  18. Yeap, that's what happens.

Take a look here - we haven't launched completely yet, there are some bugs here and there:
    http://gmauthority.com/forum/forum.php?id=38

That's the restricted forum. Only mods and key masters can post in here via the zaerl visibility plugin. :)

  19. You are right. That's a bug. An interesting one.
