Doesn't it duplicates the "latests posts" feature included in every theme?

Excuse me, but you show very poor information about the plugin

Nope! It shows up the recent replies on the topics just like we have recent comments in WordPress.
I am sorry that I don't have much description here but I am trying to figure it out that how to do so. For the time being, I will explain here only.
Like you start a topic and when someone replies to it, it will show up there to show the activity in forum.

@ashfame - This is a neat plugin! Works with 1.0.2. It is indeed similar to "recent comments" in WP, perfect for a sidebar. Each link takes you straight to the reply. Just gave it a rating :-)
