I am using WP multisite with Buddypress and the plugins from WPMUDEV.org.

I am trying to find a way to have a forum assigned just to a particular membership level in my membership.

Now, I'm not at all familiar with bbPress and I'm no PHP guru, but here's my assessment of what's going on. I would love to be corrected if I'm wrong!

To filter posts in the RSS feed, the plugin does this:
add_action( 'bb_rss.php', 'private_forums_filter_stuff_in_rss' );

The problem is that there isn't a bbPress hook called 'bb_rss.php'. Thus, the function never runs.

My solution (and I don't like it) is to add this line after every instance of the $posts array being populated in /rss.php:
do_action( 'bb_rss.php' );

That works, but any future bbPress updates will break it again.

change: $new_forums[] = $forum;
to: $new_forums[$forum->forum_id] = $forum;

This is exactly what I need, as I do not want hidden forums, I don't want my forums hidden, I only want them reported as 'private' and I do not want others to view them unless they register/login. There is even a great update to add your own User Types here:

Using this combined with Hidden Forums (there are still a few forums I want to hide completely) provides the perfect solution!

The fix was to modify private-forums.php on line 294

change: $new_forums[] = $forum;

to: $new_forums[$forum->forum_id] = $forum;

I didn't really look into why it was doing because I didn't want to learn the plugin, but in case anybody else is having that problems, that's the fix.

If you want to make all of your forums viewable only to registered users, add this to the bottom of header.php:

	if (bb_get_current_user_info() == NULL) {
		exit;
	}
?>

This just tells bbpress to bail if the user is not registered and logged in.
