Whoa! (bbPress.org 2.0 is live)

  1. Download links and other infos are not displayed in several plugins: Fixed.

Yep, but every plugin page still displays info about an old version of it.
Luckily if you download the plugin you will end up with its most recent release. =)

  2. "Add your plugin" form (http://bbpress.org/plugins/forum/requests) doesn't function. It keeps sending me to the bb_die page "Your attempt to do this has failed."

I have three new plugins to share with the community but right now I can't.

  3. email it to me! forget the community! The words are getting tinier. "Member" is really small now. I didn't have that problem before

  4. Add your Plugin: Fixed.

  5. Some more things to do:

    1. These pages haven't been styled yet - register, login, profile edit, views, favorites, post-edit, search. (Also the views of plugin section).
    2. Add the crumb style in plugin section too.
    3. Style the 404 page a bit and offer some options to go back, or search.
    4. Reduce the size of search textbox so that search button could reside in the same line.
    5. Add a subscribe to topic link in the topic sidebar.
    6. When you're logged in as a member, you see something like "Welcome, Gautam | | Log Out". One of "|" should be removed. (It might be happening because of the admin section link for admins.)
    7. Style the download buttons on download page, they are hardly getting highlighted.
    8. Add a link to lost password page.
    9. Enable gravatars on plugins section (I think it is running bbPress 1.0).
    10. Prevent the comment from going to left in plugins section (like this - http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/zaerl-editor/#post-5730 )
    11. Some more tasks, which are big ones:

    1. Add a themes repo.
    2. Style the blog.
    3. Add the tags back in plugin section.
    4. Add stats in plugins section, Nightgunner5 had written a userscript for that - http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/63060
  6. To repeat unfixed issues from my previous post here:

    • in login form in header, username and password are not deleted when you click on it, so you need to manually delete them (this is when you are logged put, of course)
    • better aligning on post form on plugin's pages
    • more margin between columns on user's favorites page
    • no subscribe to topic link (I'm now wondering could be this solved by using action topicmeta instead of hardcoding in theme since this won't work in any theme by default)

    Ideas:

    • gravatars could be added to posts on plugin's page too
    • RSS icons on links to RSS feeds
  7. In http://bbpress.org/plugins/forum/requests put "Plugin Description (required)" over the corresponding textarea (need just a <br /> as for "Plugin Name (required)").

Put some space between the "Submit Comment " button and "Allowed Tags" <p> in plugins/topic/*

This is strange. The star gif used for rating in plugin section does have a tiny gold border when displayed with gold background. (Firefox/3.6, no problem with Safari 4.0.5) I can take a screenshot.

  8. These 2 links are broken (which are in forum's footer):
    http://bbpress.org/about/privacy/
    http://bbpress.org/about/gpl/

  9. Michael and Noel,

Dudes, we are all so greatly apprecaitive of the time and effort you're throwing into this. And we do apprecaite that not everythings a simple bug to fix, and of course there will be some legacy stuff/hacks to deal with... But I hope you don't take offence when we point out things like the homepage not working for days on end (why not roll back??) or:

These pages haven't been styled yet - register, login, profile edit, views, favorites, post-edit, search

I mean, we all accept bugs, heck we're happy to find them so we can contribute to fixing them. But to release a theme without even bothering to style 8 (minimum) out of the 27 theme files is really starting to make us all look a bit amateur. (Thats 30% btw)

These 2 links are broken (which are in forum's footer):
    http://bbpress.org/about/privacy/
    http://bbpress.org/about/gpl/

I wonder, with all due respect, how cool this sort of thing would be over at WordPress.org?

Please let us know if we can help, we want to help!!

  10. Also, i finally upgraded FireBug after notcing how much smaller the text has become again and according to that this is what I'm looking at:

    font-family 'Lucida Grande','Bitstream Vera Sans',Arial,sans-serif
    font-size 8.4px
    font-style italic

I don't know what's changed (i've been away at a wedding since Wednesday night), but "Member" or the role is so incredibly small its unreal. Given that Browsers struggle with decimal points of fonts, we're looking at 8px text.

The fact that it's italic is huge amounts of fun to read too.

As I pointed out earlier, 'Lucida Grande' is a MAC font and 'Bitstream Vera Sans' is a Linux font. I wonder if we could check the pages on systems without these fonts because 8px text is honestly a nightmare to read (especially as it's italic).

    http://www.kevinjohngallagher.com/member_text.png

    Edit: Found the change:

The 960 layout framework, for some reason, has decided to control the text as well (brilliantly outwith its remit imo). It sets the text size as 12px, and then we set it to 70% on line 76 of "http://bbpress.org/forum-theme/bborg/style.css".

  11. The member title is certainly the smallest on my system and it probably the only think I would consider unreadable. It's slightly more readable than your screenshot, but I am using Chrome on Linux, so maybe the font is already there.

The next size up in font size is all the stuff beneath the avatar (Posted 18 hours ago/IP/Edit/Delete/Spam) then the next size up, what I would consider normal, is the post text.

  12. I have added two new plugins but the plugin section doesn't refresh.

    http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/zaerl-url-preview
    http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/zaerl-post-permalink

so I suppose that it's a problem that affects all new uploads.

  13. @zaerl: plugins section does not update since bbPress "new look", actually... :P

  14. Yes I know. But I thought that it was problem only related to upgrade and not to new uploads.

  15. What is the estimated time for bbPress 2.0 to be officially out?

Also, Is there a thread that I can use to ask for new features? Like easier quoting as it is in other forum scripts.

  16. If by "bbPress 2.0" you mean this theme, the answer is never.

If you mean the next release of bbPress (which is either 1.0.3 or 1.1 - they haven't decided yet and thankfully we've people working on different versions) then it's a wait and see situation. I'd suggest August seems one of the earlist likely dates.

New features? Matt is scapping bbPress and making it a wordPress plugin, so there are no new features going to be added. Plus last time we were asked what we wanted in bbPress the results of the poll got ignored and the needs of WordPress.org was chosen.

  17. That sucks, Seems like I have to find another simple forum script.

Do you guys have any recommendations?!!

  18. Do you guys have any recommendations?!

This isn't a good place for asking this kind of questions. It's like if you enter in a bar and say: "your bar sucks. Do you know where I can find another bar?"

  19. Mh. I'm watching my readme.txt and I don't see problems/mistakes. The funny thing is that the SVN actually functions cause it has already generated the .zip files. See:

    zaerl-url-preview.0.1.zip

    and

    zaerl-post-permalink.0.1.zip

    do exist on server.

  20. Plugins directory not updating: Fixed.

  21. Thanks.

  22. mdawaffe :

What is the refreshing rate ? like wp plugins or less ?

can you verify this plugin (and perhaps all others):

    http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/xili-new-post-notification/

the webside is not refreshed as the

    http://plugins-svn.bbpress.org/xili-new-post-notification/

    Many thanks

    Michel

  23. Plugins directory not updating: Fixed.

Seems it's not retroactive... I mean, Zaerl's last plugins are now listed correctly, but all other plugins did not get updated (yet): it looks like my last plugins update was a month ago! =P

  24. Check how backticks and [code] work to format a post.

    http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/internet-explorer-problem-1?replies=8#post-69386

Was initially written with backticks, and rendered as GT and LT, so I tried to edit it to replace backtick with [code] but it's still messed up.

Someone mentioned that re-editing also introduced paragraphs or breaks, IIRC. When I first edited the post, every line of code and a [BR] after it.

  25. But then, the code in this post is fine:

    http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wordpress-header-on-bbpress#post-69383

Maybe the previous one was edited and that's where the trouble started?

  26. Yeah, If you edit with CODE in place it causes issues.
Before hand we just used to put code in BLOCKQUOTES, but now it's got that daft graphic it's not helpful at all (imo).

  27. But then, the code in this post is fine:

    http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wordpress-header-on-bbpress#post-69383

Maybe the previous one was edited and that's where the trouble started?

My post had GT LT replacement too, I had to edit it and remove the php tags... but this is not a solution, because there are post in which you cannot remove the tags, as http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/internet-explorer-problem-1?replies=8#post-69386

  28. Plugins directory not updating: Fixed.

Seems it's not retroactive... I mean, Zaerl's last plugins are now listed correctly, but all other plugins did not get updated (yet): it looks like my last plugins update was a month ago! =P

Plugins section is finally up to date!! =)

  29. Wow, bbPress is having two potential versions to choose from. It's a shame that all the talent can't be pooled into one project to really make it excel. But in the end both branches could end up being quite different and useful in their own right. I think it'd be cool if _CK_'s branch could stay on within bbPress as a classic or standalone version.
