This whole BuddyPress hype …. needs explanation

    can anyone please tell me is buddy press replacing bbPress? otherwise were wasting our time….

    “BuddyPress will transform a vanilla installation of WordPress MU into a social network platform.”

    vanilla is another forum, so im guessing BuddyPress will have its own forum… right so what the hell is bbPress for lol…

    anyone help here?

    I think they’re using the term “vanilla” to mean “plain.” In other words, any standard installation of WordPress MU can be turned into a social network platform.

    Vanilla, the forum software, doesn’t have anything to do with it, as far as I know.

    I’ve never used it but from what I can tell BuddyPress is more like LiveJournal than a forum based system where there are community blogs. It doesn’t actually have forum code.

    BuddyPress is a social networking addon for WPMU. It does not have a built-in forum, and it will not be replacing bbPress. Vanilla in this context just means plain.

    Because vanilla is jargon for plain or standard.

    bbPress will probably be used to augment BuddyPress’ groups with forums. It’s a complimentary product, not a replacement.
