Styling author posts?

   I'm realizing how much I rely on the fact that WP has documentation of its hooks and template tags... without this info on BB, it is difficult to find how to do stuff.

   I have an integrated installation of WP 2.6.2 + BB alpha 2.
   I want to apply a different style to a posting/comment in my forums if it is written by a user who is an Author or higher in my WP user table. How do I check for this within BB? Inside BB, all of these WP users (my WP authors as well as standard WP users) are BB members... I do not want to give my WP authors BB moderator functionality. So can I check the WP role directly from the user table within BB?
