This feature is great, if you like that sort of thing, but for a busy forum it really adds to the sense of clutter and schyzophrenic confusion for my users. They complain about it incessantly.

I searched the forums for ‘how to disable tags’ and found one thread where not enough information was provided to allow me to remove them entirely.

I was just wondering why on earth this isn’t a toggleable feature a not just ‘always on’?

At the very least, would you consider implementing a switch for the tag function in the admin panel or maybe provide adequete documentation for admins to remove it from their install/s?

A workaround would be to simply hide them from your theme (out of sight, out of mind, you know).
