Hi,

Whenever I edit a topic that is set to Closed status, the save button says “Publish” isntead of the expected “Update” and after saving, the topic suddenly has status Open.

Is this by design or a bug?

By the way, this is when editing from the WP admin back-end (via the Edit Topic link in the admin toolbar for example) not when editing inline on the forum page…

I think this is due to the following WordPress issue with custom post types:

That said I haven’t looked at this closely in bbPress as it ‘should’ be ‘Update’ and not change the status to ‘Open’ as you point out.

Can you please create a ticket on Trac for this and we can either fix it or wait for the upstream fix via WordPress https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/

Didn’t see a ticket in Trac yet per RavanH, so I just created it: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2543#ticket. Seeing the upstream looks to be 5+ years open I hope there’s a quicker fix! 😉
