Hi, I'm building a community website and planning to export the topic list, including the "number of post, last post user, time" column into my Wordpress main page.

An example screenshot will look like this :
http://i43.tinypic.com/286tr7m.jpg

Please let me know if you know how to do it, or is there any documents that I can refer to. Many thanks

Hi all,

I do try the integration with applications but I get a problem, but really problems is that if I login on WP I lost login on bbpress and if I login on bbpress I lost login on Wordpress.

I set in wp-config.php and bb-config.php with same constant:

AUTH_KEY, SECURE_AUTH_KEY, LOGGED_IN_KEY, NONCE_KEY and BB_AUTH_KEY, BB_SECURE_AUTH_KEY, BB_LOGGED_IN_KEY, BB_NONCE_KEY

and I set the 3 value on bbpress setting page, I leave blank field "WordPress "secure auth" cookie salt" beacause I don't have this field on wordpress.

I installed bbpress integration plug in on wordpress and set the url of forum and I write in wp-config file this string:

define( 'COOKIEPATH', '/' );

Hello,

My integration between WP & BB is failed. Because if i login in Wordpress, i must login again in BBpress. So the cookies aren't the same. But wp-config and bb-config have the same AUTH Keys (So BB_AUTH_KEY and AUTH_KEY are the same (and the rest too ofcourse))
I don't understand what i am doing wrong.
One thing is good integrated: The users. In both installation, i can logged in with every username. (that is registered)

EDIT:
When i see in bb-admin/options-wordpress.php, the AUTH KEY's are different then the KEY's that i have set in de bb-config and wp-config.

Thanks

Okay, so I installed bbPress fine, but then I was trying to get my Wordpress page to link to my forums. So then long story short, I changed the url settings in bbPress, and now, every time I try to log in, it goes to a page on my wordpress, saying page not found. I can go to my forums, just not the admin page. So I deleted everything and tried to reinstall, and when I hit step 2, it says the "Already installed, Upgrade Script thing," so i click the link, and it send me back to my page on my wordpress. Is there a file that contains what that url thing should be? Because I haven't been able to find it. Thanks for any help.

There was some discussion about making bbPress a WordPress plugin. This would lead to a complete re-write of the project, but I have a better idea:

bbPress should be a standalone platform, so it can also be run without WordPress.

There should be a plugin on WordPress plugins repo (for eg.
bbPress Forums Integrator
or simply
bbPress
), which would have bbPress as svn:external and load the bbPress files as BuddyPress does it. Basically the plugin could be what can be found here - http://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk/bp-forums

This way both type of users would be benefitted - those who want bbPress as a standalone and those who want it to be deeply integrated with WordPress.

Some of my thoughts...

Hi all,
I am in the process of developing a new site (which is currently in beta and not meant for the public yet...) but I have a few concerns...

Website: http://www.diyextra.com

1) Have I chosen the right forum for the project, I keep hearing bbpress is dead or it will not be developed as much when/if it becomes a plugin... Should I be using a larger scale forum package like vbulletin or phpbb ? ... My thoughts on the subject originally was to go bbpress as it may tie in well with the CMS side of the site which is controlled by wordpress, I did look in to buddypress but the whole group forum thing is off putting and the fact it is not SEO friendly and the slugs (urls) are way to long... Anyone have any comments or thoughts on this would be great....

2) Plugins - Ok so I understand the forum is very basic in its core state and you add plugins to achieve options you require, but quite a number of plugins I have tried to use seem not to work, Also I have a concern that there will be a limited number of plugins developed for bbpress when/if it becomes a plugin.

3) Here is a bug I have found - maybe its just on my forum... The freshness (time/date) is incorrect a lot of the test posts I have posted on the forum are from weeks and months ago, but yet they are show up as 3 weeks... yes I have heavily modified the templet files but only the html and header/footer locations... any ideas ?

4) RSS - Also I am getting RSS error - "This page contains the following errors: error on line 10 at column 33: Entity 'raquo' not defined
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error." Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions...

Many Thanks Guys,

Chris

Here is how to correctly install Avatar Upload.

The "Additional Info" is not too detailed.

Here is the instructions on how to get the plugin (currently) on your bbPress site:

1. Download and upload the plugin to your bbPlugins directory.
2. Activate the plugin in the bbPress Admin section.
3. Follow the file movement instructions:
In the "additional-files" folder (inside this Avatar Upload plugin directory) there is several files. These need to be moved elsewhere.

Move the entire "avatars/" folder to your bbPress root directory. (Including the "default.png" inside.)

Move the "avatar-upload.php" to the bbPress root directory.

Move the "avatar.php" (inside the "my-templates" folder) to your template(s) (theme(s)). Example: Move "my-templates/avatar.php" to "forums/bb-templates/kakumei/" (So it is like "forums/bb-templates/kakumei/avatar.php".)

I hope this helps someone :D

I have installed bbpress first with my own website. Now, when I have a lot of users on it, I want to switch my website to a wordpress based website. I know it is possible if you want to install bbpress on a wordpress website. I want to ask if I can install wordpress after I have installed bbpress. i.e. I want to transfer all my users from bbpress to wordpress etc.

Into the bb-templates directory the readme.txt says: "This directory is reserved for themes distributed with the bbPress core package. If you wish to install more themes, you should create a new directory called "my-templates" in the base directory of your bbPress installation and install them there, not here."

I did it, but did not work. It works only if I put the new themes into the same bb-templates directory. Wich is the right way?

OK, I know is hard for you guys dealing with the same dumb questions from ignorants like me about databases, upgrading and messing things up. Thats why you are so specials and thats why we all want our own forums to return the favor to other people. Thanks bbpress community for doing this for free while that guy Matt is making millions with WP.

Now the questions:
Things were wrong while upgrading, but the database is still in place and I have the back up of the database in my PC.
Can I reinstall a broken installation in the same directory with the same database (Version 0.94)?
Or can I install version 1.0 in the same directory using the old database?
Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to list topics from the forum in a WP post. I'm wanting to just show the topics that have the same tags as the particular post that is being viewed.

This is basically a display relevant posts. How can this be done? I've tried a bunch of PHP, but I'm not having luck navigating the codex between the two databases. I've mucked around alot, but I can't get beyond the basic display the last 10 posts functionality.

Here's where I'm at: HELP?

<?php

global $wpdb;
$query="SELECT * FROM bb_topics WHERE topic_status=0 ORDER BY topic_time DESC LIMIT 10";
$results=$wpdb->get_results($query);

foreach ($results as $result) {echo "

topic_id."'>".$result->topic_title."

";}
?>

Help! I am a designer, NOT a programmer...I finished up a site for a client last week that included a forum and today we are getting this message: ERROR: Could not establish a database connection. I have a more tech savvy friend trying to help me but I can't figure it out.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much!

Update, the bb_admin folder cannot be reached... strange! it is on the server but the url says: Oops! This link appears to be broken.

Hi,everyone,

The default tags page is like

example.com/tags.php?tag={tag_name}

but I want to make the url like

example.com/tags.php?id={tag_id},

is there any way to make it? could it be done by a plugin?

I have to do so because using the tag's name in url may lead to being blocked by Chinese government's Internet censorship.

thanks.

Hi,

I'm adding a toggle switch on categories for my forum, but they need to each have unique ids or something along those lines in order for the toggle to talk to each individual category.

Any ideas how I could do this? Here is the code I have for the toggle.

<script>
$(".toggle").click(function () {
$("#box").slideToggle("slow");
});

Hello,

I want to know the name of the User that is logged in (the name that he is registered, so not viewed on the forum. Most of the time, people change there name to look it better for forum post's and comments. But i want the real name.)
So not bb_get_current_user_info('name'); because then i get the name dat is displayed on the site.

Another thing is: Is there a plugin, or trick to let Wordpress and BBPress more cooperate between them? Because, if i know logged in on wordpress, is must do exactly the same thing on bbpress. But i want logged in on wordpress and in the same time logged in in bbpress too. So then i don't need to login twice on the same website.

Thanks,
Leander

When users register on my bbPress installation, they receive a URL to login. Except the URL to login is the bbPress install location, not the URL of the bbPress install as it sits inside my Wordpress site design. How can I change the URL in that e-mail?

If that wasn't clear, here's what I mean. The registration e-mail is forwarding users to http://www.chengduliving.com/bbpress but where I want them to go is http://www.chengduliving.com/forum

Hi to all,
I'm wondering to solve my problem but I haven't find any solution yet. I hope I'll got it from bbpress support forums.
My problem is

I have mentioned a notice right above the topics. like Micheal's forums "http://www.inniosoft.co.cc/devstation/"

i.e.

"""""Dev:station is a community-driven forum where developers, beginner and expert alike, can discuss software and website development, share ideas, explore other ideas, compete with other members, and share news and/or tutorials. Dev:station is the place to learn new things everyday."""""

so when I login into his forums, then this notice goes hide. I want exact like this.
But in case of my forums. when I login to my forums this still remain there.

can anybody tell me what to do?

Note: Micheal is not willing to solve any issue of bbpress.

Regards,
Pagal

I'm hoping I did this correctly...

I think it was step 2 of the install where you enter in your database details..

I entered in my wordpress database details so that they share the same user database.

This was the correct thing to do?

Also, it seems to work, my admin account worked for both the site and on the forum so it looks like my account is shared.

One problem though, when I login on the site and then go to the forums sometimes it is still logged out on the forums.

Hello,

Just wondering what the status is on 1.1. Is there a beta available to test?

We really need people to be able to post without creating a account. Also email notifications are pretty essential.

We are tried some of the existing plugins, but they don't seem to cut it.

I've seen some threads here and there that suggest its just a matter of using the header and footer code from your wordpress theme and applying it to your bbpress theme.

I'm a real disaster when it comes to doing a whole lot with code. I can only edit and rearrange it. I have no experience with writing any code.

I was wondering if there was anyone more experienced with performing this that I could send the needed wordpress theme files to and maybe I could receive some help with the process?

I am willing to pay for help if needed, I appreciate such generous help.

I recently changed the database host names across several sites. Nothing else changed except that.

I changed the database host names for all my wordpress installs in the config files, and they all work now.

However, simply changing the database host names in the config files for my bbpress installs did not work. I have 2 bbpress installs, and they both say "Error: Could not establish a database connection." I then tried to edit the host name where I found it in the database, and it still does not work.

My question is what have I done wrong? Why would changing the database host name make it not work when every other database connection works?
