4 Open bb-config.php (in the bbpress folder) do the same thing here. With the SAME keys you put in the wordpress file put in the bb-config file around line # 41-45. ***You have to add BB_ to the front of the names. Example: BB_AUTH_KEY to all eight.*** Save. Keep the file open for now.

Cross-Domain Intergration

I've not seen anything about messy cross-domain integrations, so I thought I'd share my method. I'm using WordPress 2.8.6 with BBPress 1.0.2. Your mileage may vary on other versions. I suspect this method is not valid for 2.5/0.9.

The setup:
- example.com/blog
- example.com/forum
- example.org/forum

With shared user tables and database.

The config AUTH_KEY/SECURE_AUTH_KEY/LOGGED_IN_KEY should be the same for all (remember to add BB_ to the forum config files). Within the BBPress admin intergation, have the same auth/secure/logged in values for all forums (remember it's the value shown within the WordPress options screen, not the values in the config files).

In this case cookiepath should be '/' ($bb->cookiepath = '/'; // in bb-config and, define('COOKIEPATH', '/'); // in wp-config). Set other $bb->style configurations as you wish.

Basically, everything is the same. Except: The Cookie Domain must be explicitly set**. And not always set to the same value.

In example.com/blog's wp-config add: define('COOKIE_DOMAIN','.example.com');

In example.com/forum's bb-config add: $bb->cookiedomain = '.example.com';

So far, so simple.

Now, in theory, example.org/forum can be set with $bb->cookiedomain = '.example.com'; // But I've not tried. Paranoid browsers would surely reject this. Instinctively having the forum rely on something that might look like a security risk is bad.

Instead, try adding this to example.org/forum's bb-config: $bb->cookiedomain = '.example.org'; // Users will still need to log in separately when they switch domain, but all the other integration features seem to be fooled, with no adverse problems.

I'd welcome any feedback on this method. I'm still not sure this is the best approach.

( ** Not setting the cookie domain appears to work, until the user switches between domains - example.com/blog doesn't simply fail to find a cookie set by example.org/forum, it may fail a fresh blog login until cookies are cleared. I'm not sure exactly what's happening, but it's messy.)

Still the same, logged in the wordpress, not logged in the bbpress but can do it.
only with define( 'COOKIEPATH', '/' ); in the both files!

But i look very carefully into the cookies.

I found 2 differences!
First for wordpress cookies
login cookie is with name wordpress_logged_in_xxxxx and path /
and other cookies are with path /wp-admin, wp-content/plugins, /forum/bb-admin /forum/bb-plugins

and for the bbpress cookies are

wordpress_xxxxxxx and path /
and other cookies are with path
website.com/wp-admin
website.comwp-content/plugins
website.com/forum/bb-admin
website.com/forum/bb-plugins

I think this is the problem, but I don't knew how to fix it, to have path without the host in bbpress cookies...

Start with my instructions here.

The difference is step 7
Step 7 WordPress type will be WordPress MU
You'll have I think four lines.
define( 'COOKIEHASH', '####################' );
define( 'COOKIE_DOMAIN', '.website.com' );
define( 'SITECOOKIEPATH', '/' );
define( 'COOKIEPATH', '/' );

Copy it to both files but take out the HASH line in bbpress.
So copy copy the four line into wp-config but the last three line into bb-config

Well, I took the header, footer, index, style sheet and image folder from the WP theme and transfered them over to the bbP theme folder. I then renamed index.php to forum.php and combined both css files into one which is currently pretty bloated. After clearing out my browser cache the bbP page is pretty good looking, just like the WP page.

There are a few things that need tweaking, such as a blank line near the footer on the main page and the tag list on the message pages.

Hi,
i tried to integrate my wordpress 2.8.6 and bbpress 1.0.2. I think I made everything as the description. Bbpress now uses wordpress database, I fixed also the keymaster role from the db directly. But i still have one problem. When i log in from wordpress, I'm not logged in bbpress. I think it worked one or two times, but now it's not working.
Freshly Baked Cookies plugin is not working, is that the problem and if the plugin is working will be the integration ok?

Just found this thread, and wanted to say I am using WP 2.8x and bbPress 1.01 succesfully together now; user integration is just what I wanted. Only catch remains the style (user interface) integration, which I'm hoping to sort out eventually (hard when I don't know CSS at all).

Please can someone provide a "clean" guide using bbPress .9.x and WordPress 2.7.1?

Step #1
Step #2
.
.
.
...and so on.

I've been trying (very hard) to follow this guide, but there are so many contradictions and then links to external resources that say to do something else.

Needless to say, I'm ready right now to simply give up on bbPress and move on.

There needs to be so many edits, changes, fixes (and it still does not work). I truly hope the developers STOP... sit back and re-evaluate this project. In my opinion, it should integrate with WordPress easily as the option should be there during the install. I thought WordPress and bbPress were the same "organization" - As such, integration (I feel) should have been a natural fit! Currently it's so difficult, that for some it's become a deterrent to use bbPress. I think that is not good. (I personally know of two people who tried to integrate and after a frustrating period, opted for other solutions. One of them makes a point of telling others to stay away from bbPress, because he was more frustrated than I was - Which I think is not right! It bothers me because if he's doing that, how many others are?)

Two things that have added to the confusion are:

1) Comments from other users, suggesting something else, or contradicting the information.

2) The guide needs to be updated to use current WordPress code and also to include more instruction. I'm very technically oriented, parts of this guide leave even me hanging in the breeze. Parts of the guide are too generalized.

I hope some of the developers hear me (and feel the frustration) , but more importantly, stand back and look (really look) at this issue.

Thanks for letting me have a say, I hope this helps bbPress in some way.
