They copied all my carefully collected (and slightly modified) themes from bbShowcase, edited them all and are presenting it like they did all the work.

Chances are the permissions are 750 instead of 755. They were being created with the wrong permissions for a while but that issue is fixed in trunk now. Check the permissions with a shell or FTP program and make the directory permissions 755 and it will work.
