Thanks for the link. I didn't realise WP 2.6 wasn't 0.9.2 friendly, thanks for the link to the sticky though. Good info in it!

Im going to intergrate my Wordpress Theme into my bbPress forum, so I need to make sure that functions like Header and Sidebar can be used in bbPress. So I've been reading up and found out that you need to place this code in the bb-config.php:

require_once('path/to/wp-blog-header.php');

However when I place the code. I suddenly can't log into the bbPress forum anymore. When I click login nothing happens the page will load but not display links like Username --> Admin ---> Log out just the normal page as if a guest was browsing the forum.

I am placing the code below the first <php line? Am I doing something wrong?

Additional Info:

Wordpress Version: 2.6.2
bbPress Version: 0.9.2

i tried what you just and no I obviously put the <?php first lol

here is a screenshot of my situation.

wordpress still works when i use that "functions" line, but logining to bbpress does not.

thanks

as i said, when i use the line, the domain www.picbi.com/forum results in a white empty page

swaymedia: the full path should not be a URL but a filesystem path, something like:

/home/picbico/public_html/wp-blog-header.php

I tried on my forum and a relative path works there, so I'm not sure that's the issue.

Be sure that's the second line of bb-config.php - the first line should be
<?php
:

<?php
require_once('/home/picbico/public_html/wp-blog-header.php');

PHP doesn't think the file is where you say it is. Can you take a screenshot of the directory listing in an FTP program or command line, and post that? Something does not make sense.

i just read a post on another thread, and saw this checklist:-

1. You are running latest versions of WordPress (2.5.1) and bbPress (0.9.0.2)

ME - yeahs I am !

2. You have matched SECRET_KEY in wp-config.php with BB_SECRET_KEY in bb-config.php

ME - yeahs I have !

3. You have matched WordPress "secret" database option with bbPress "secret" database setting

ME - yeahs I have!

4. You have setup compatible cookie domains and paths in config files (see instructions in bbPress admin)

ME - I take its these two things i have to add to wp-config.php file: - define('COOKIE_DOMAIN', ''); define('COOKIEPATH', '/');
if so what do I change those parameters to, or do i leave them blank ... im not that familiar with cookies .. :/ (my site is www.picbi.com and the forum is www.picbi.com/forum )

5. You are successfully sharing user tables from WordPress with bbPress

Me - Yeahs I am

i think i may need those functions to intergrate teh forum "theme" with the rest of the site so it doesnt look like two seperate thigns.

ill be back after i try this : require_once('../wp-blog-header.php'); one more time.

Do you know if this has to be the first line in the config file or something. and does php use 2 dots ie "../" to mean back a directory, getting confusing.

And btw i changed it from bb-config-sample.php to bb-config.php before installing it becuase it didnt work.

the structure is like this : -

picbi.com/wp-blog-header.php
and
picbi.com/forum/bb-config.php

and in bb-config.php i put this line, in the first line after the <?php :-

require_once('../wp-blog-header.php');

also.................................................
after copying that line in bb-config.php would this mean that i cant login as different users in the forum and the blog AT THE SAME TIME.

for example i just put the line in but this time not at the beginning of bb-config.php and it worked but its not letting me for example login as the admin of the blog and as a different user in the forum AT THE SAME TIME. or is that meant to happen.

WordPress functions are defined and available to WordPress.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference

That line is supposed to allow you to use WordPress functions from inside a bbPress page. It looks like you just got the path to it wrong. Does the file
wp-blog-header.php
actually exist one directory level up from where the bb-config.php is right now?

Ok, first of all I should note that this is the second time iv installed this and i still got the "minor error: duplicate user_nicename" message or something like that.

But this time it worked well and I logged in straight away as the admin. But when I went to login to the WP-Admin, I couldnt log back in the bbPress as admin and as any username.

So what I then did was clear all the cookies, then it allowed me to log back in as admin in bbPress, so now im in. But... I click on the "Admin" link at the top to go to the settings and all that stuff. and its spits out this:-

I also might need to mention that I tried to 'intergrate' the wordpress functions with it by applying this line to the bb-config.php file : require_once('../wp-blog-header.php');

I've finished integrating 2.5 WP with BBpress and everything was working fine, until I changed something and broke my bb-admin page.

I have
require_once('../wp-blog-header.php');
in my bb-config.php which was working correctly at one point in time.

Now I see that /bb-admin/ doesn't work because the relative path is broken.

This is where my knowledge fails me, how do I find the Absolute Path to blog-header or how do I trick /bb-admin/ to reading the relative path properly?

You have the wrong URI in your config.php. You have this (I think):

// The full URL of your bbPress install
$bb->uri = 'http://ironboundforum.com/forums/';

and it should be

$bb->uri = 'http://ironboundforum.com/';

bbPress doesn't care if it's in a folder or not, just like it doesn't know that it's in your webroot of /kunden/homepages/46/d93680635/htdocs/ironbound/, so that 'forums' portion does not need to be in the config.php for your URI.

See this after I applied the proper stylesheet:
http://www.chrishajer.com/bbpress/Ironbound.png

Yep. That's what I thought. BUT when I do that, the site loses all the formating. Take a look: http://ironboundforum.com/

You can make that change in your 1&1 control panel. Administration > Domains > click the domain name, click the Destination [Edit] button, then select the /forums/ directory from the "Existing directory" select box. That directs all traffic destined for mysite.com to whatever website you have installed in the forums directory (which is bbPress in this case.)

That works fine if you want your bbPress installation to be the whole website mysite.com and everything is in the 'forums' directory. It's the most direct way to do it, since you have the option to do it this way. It basically hides the fact that things are in a 'forums' directory, just like all the rest of the web server path is hidden. My full path is something like
/kunden/homepages/46/d93680635/htdocs
, and then each website has a subfolder there.

/kunden/homepages/46/d93680635/htdocs/chrishajer/

/kunden/homepages/46/d93680635/htdocs/forums/

/kunden/homepages/46/d93680635/htdocs/somesite/forums/

Your subfolder will be called "forums", but people visiting your site will never know.

Coffee - black :)

Chris: Although my forum is working right now. It is not doing what I want it to do. Let me explain what I want to accomplish and then my current setup. I have 1&1 shared hosting.

I would like mysite.com to be directly forwarded to the forum. Meaning if I type mysite.com it goes to the forum's main page.
--
Right now (the only way I made everything work) mysite.com is just at the root folder and displays nothing (the 403 error because there is now index in the main root directory). The forum is at /forums and works. But i have to type mysite.com/forums.

The config file was setup for http://mysite.com/forums/

inside /forums/ you find the bb-admin and folders etc. Basicly I renamed bbpress as forums and installed it from there.

The problem is that is I forward the mysite.com domain to either the /forums/ directory or do an HTTP forward. It does not work. It messes everything up. I am clearly doing something wrong. I can't understand shared hosting. ahhhhhhhhh. Please help me. Buy you a latte.

I use 1&1 without any trouble with many bbPress and WordPress installations. If you need help, just post. Every host is a little bit different, but I have 3+ years of experience with 1&1 on all types of servers.

Cheers.

Thank you for your help chrishajer. I did eventually figure it out... after 13 different installations. It was easy (bbpress) but shared hosting is difficult to deal with.

The problem is that I have this stupid shared hosting BS with 1and1. Right now I have mysite.com which is actually mysite.com/forum. Then I have the files under mysite.com/forum/bbpress. It installs fine but then I get 500 errors on any of the forum links.
