This is a problem with parse_url() dying when there is an http:// in the querystring. The latest commit in branches/0.9 fixes this problem, which would only occur when trying to add a new topic when not logged in.

So I deactivated the plugins. One at a time and retested and retested with both unplugged and it still wouldn't post a new topic from the "home" page of the forum.

This still only appears to be an issue of posting from the home page? Is it possible that the "add new topic" link on the home page is tied to a forum that doesn't exist anymore?

How does bbpress decide which forum to put a new topic into when it is started from the home page? Does it give you a drop down box to pick the forum?

thanks.

Well, I did test bbpress before I used the plugins and everything appeared to work. But I'm not sure if I tested that specific function?

Would it be a good idea to remove the plugins and retest, then set up the plugins again?

I'm trying to decide how big an issue this is?

So I have intergrated bbpress into our website and it seems to be working pretty well. I used two plugins "private forums" and "approved registration", which has also worked well.

A couple posters pointed out to me an issue today? The "add new topic" link pulls up the form to add a topic... but when you "send post" it gives an error message:

"This topics has been closed"

The only way for users to add a new topic is to choose the forum they want to add it to and then scroll down and use the form on the forums page. It works and with the small number of users is ok... but hopefully the number of users grow, which it will become an issue.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a fix?

Here's the link to the bbpress on our site: http://www.ditschfitness.com/forum/

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to do 3 things.

1. I want posts inactive longer then a set time to not be propagated to the Latest Discussions on the forum Index.

2. I want hidden private forums to not show up on the Latest Discussion list unless they would normally be allowed to see it.

3. I want the forum name to show up in another column in the Latest Discussion list.

I'm using the Private Forums plug-in, and Latest Discussion is only visible on my site from bbpress/index.

For 1. I found a plug-in but it's no longer supported and I couldn't clean up the Syntax error myself.

For 2 I can find nothing.

For 3 using another forum post I've already edited my templates to include the extra column and I almost see how to do it myself, but I can't see where to get the name of the forum from the topic.

As always, thank you for whatever help you can offer.

Hi,

I have just installed WP 2.5.1 and bbP 0.9.0.2 and all appeared to be working fine. However, when I click on a topic I get sent to my WP page with the following message;

'Not Found!
Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.'

The url shows it going to the proper forum area but it isn't pulling up the topic. (http://speakpoetic.com/forums/topic/2)

Any ideas on what would cause this?

I appreciate your time and help!

What you are asking for is very easy.

$forums = get_forums();
gets you all the forums,

$topics = get_latest_topics( $forum_id);
will get you the topics list for any forum id. So if you looped through the forums like on the front page, just fetch the $topics after each forum in the loop.

The formatting and page layout is the "hard" part.

Aha! I think it's this simple. Make yourself a mini-plugin and install it containing this:

global $bb_roles;
$bb_roles->remove_cap('member','write_topics');

If you don't know how to make a plugin, it might be possible to just put those two lines into your template's
header.php

Unlike WordPress I don't believe bbPress has an easy way to do role management (yet). There is a privilege built-in for
bb_current_user_can( 'write_topics' )
which means it is technically possible to control who can start topics by taking away that role privilege from the "member" role.

In theory a small plugin should be able to do this - I'll take a look at how it might be done as an exercise in learning more about bbPress roles...

Is there a way to close the forums so that no comments, topics, or anything can be changed or posted, but everything can still be read?

When I changed something in the config.php file to "false" from "slug" it fixed itself.

OK, that fits with what i'm seeing. It looks like it's trying to get to /profiles/JeffV or to /topics/etc or to /forum/theology but it can't find it or something.

Thanks

You've got problems with your rewrite rules; wp assumes that it's meant to be a wordpress page, can't find it and therefore goes wrong. Not sure how to fix it, but I'm sure someone is.
No folders are actually created in making new forums, by the way. :) Your forums are being created, you just can't access them right now.

In management, I can create a forum. But when I try to visit it, I get the "Doh" WP page!

I think the bbPress Admin page is not able to create the folders, etc that are needed (or really, is not creating). I think the folder has the right permissions set, but I don't know what going on really.

Sorry this is vague.

Here's a link to my forums: http://jackhammr.org/bbpress

Do you have a URL where it's not working? I didn't see any images on your site that I thought should have had one. Example?
