Hi all,
This is my first post and I love bbpress already.
Having spend 2 days trying to figure out permissions and groups etc. in phpbb and feeling like a complete idiot, I found bbpress and well I'm here to stay.

Anyways my question is:
can one re-order sticky topics on a forum like you can with main forum titles?

Got it : you have to add a snippet of code to replace the topic tag function within the stickies area on the front page.

Create the topic like normal, then as keymaster, click the edit link, and on the bottom under the reply form, are links to "Stick topic" or "Stick topic to front". Click one and you're done. As keymaster, you can do this for topics created by other people as well. I don't believe there's a way to do it when you create a new topic. You need to go in to edit the topic after creating it, then the links are there at the bottom of the page.

Hello, I noticed a small issue with BBPress that I have. When a topic has been super stickied it no longer shows up in its original forum. It only appears on the front page. Was this how super-stickies were intended to function? I would think that it should appear on the home page as well as within its original forum. Just a tip!

Thanks

I downloaded the .zip from the download page yesterday and the support forum plugin version is the one you mentioned. Sorry I was in a rush yesterday, I've played with it a little more and now know what I did. I clicked the (to front) bit of the make sticky link. And this does exactly that and sticks the topic to the top of the discussions on the front page. I didn't think it would hide the topic from the forum it belongs to, so I was a little confused.

Thanks for your reply, and my apologies for not investigating further before posting here.

Depending on which version of bbpress you are using, the method to put "closed" and "sticky" onto topic titles has changed. The newest versions (trunk, not sure if it's in 0.8.3.1 yet) uses a new label method that in theory should be independent of the template.

However older bbpress versions require the "sticky" label be detected and placed via the template (theme). If you edited your templates, you may have inadvertently removed the feature.

Which bbpress version and theme are you using?

Make sure you are using the very newest support forum plugin update, I think it's up to 2.3.4 which deals with the new bbpress update.

Hi there,

I've just set up bbPress as a support forum using the support forum plugin. So far so good. I have a problem though, (not major because of sticky posts) I created a forum called README where I intend to post hints, faqs and the usual spiel you get on the top sticky in most forums.

I created a topic and a post in this readme forum and then closed the topic and made it sticky. It seems that because it's closed it won't show up when I'm on the forum view (forum.php). Is there an edit I can make to a filter somewhere? Seems like a wee bug/oversight to me.

The other thing I know has come up before many times but I could not get much useful info out of the topics. Ideally I'd want to be able to make it so no one can start a new topic on the readme forum but I don't want to make the forum private or inaccessible to normal users. Is this possible with either of the private forums plugins yet? I can live with it if not but it's a niggle.

I think you can only make a thread sticky. At the bottom of the thread, when you are logged in, you will see this link:

[Stick topic (to front)]

Click either "Stick topic" or "to front" and the thread will be sticky. If you're not admin (keymaster) I don't think you see that.

I don't think the links are visible while creating a new post or thread. So make your post, then view it and look at the bottom of the page; you'll see the links you need.

Wouldn't it be best to mark the entire topic link up? Sounds good, though.

Anyway, for enhancements add a ticket on http://trac.bbpress.org/ and mark it as such. :)

You know how topics have [sticky] and [closed] before the title. It would be great if that text in both cases ware before link and in span like this:

<span class="sticky">[sticky]</span> <a - link to the topic
<span class="closed">[closed]</span> <a - link to the topic

so we could add icons to these topics in css :) for sticky it is easy to change in template but i can't change this for closed topics

I'd like my sticky threads to act exactly like regular threads on the front page "Latest Discussions" section, instead of always being at the top of the list. That is, they'd still appear on the list, but in the order of last posting - the same as all the usual threads.

Sam..brilliant. Found it way down under the reply input form. Thanks heaps.

Now, any idea why the plugins in my /my-plugins/ directory wouldn't be loading? (trying notification.php)

This is only possible once the topic is created. In the standard template the button (link) is at the bottom of the topic page.

Hi. I've just installed bbPress for first time. Can';t for life of me find how to make a topic stick. I've searched the forums and seen references to making a topic sticky and differences between making it stick to forum or front page...but I can't see anywhere when posting a topic where I can do this.

Help please. I'm not usually this thick.

Hmm......not with this method because it is searching for topics that are new and sticky based off the timestamp of the item and the current server time. I guess if you found a way to edit the timestamp to being 'new' again it would work with that way.

Other than that, it would require having all sticky posts checked against a new table entry for this plugin, which is much more work and much more page requests.
