I am desperate for this plugin.I get following error when i activate the plugin:

and i have a value for it.

is it a simple matter of subbing that value into the line of code in the first post?

what will that do? does it make the chat function use your login name?

pikatore, please relax. This is a VOLUNTEER forum, and you have to be patient or you'll piss everyone off and no one will help you. Okay?

It sounds like, since your TOOLS menu doesn't have options, you're on a Macintosh, which means you need to go to Firefox -> Preferences -> Privacy.

Finding out where cookies are stored in your browser is pretty standard stuff. You could also google it :)

bbPress does use cookies. Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy and click on 'Remove individual cookies'

In there, search for your URL.

Hi All,

I'm wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, note I'm not very good with php/code.

I'm trying to implement a live chat shoutbox with bbpress using Ajax Chat. My goal is to get users logged in to bbpress, automatically log in with their BBpress credentials into the Chat.

In the Ajax chat wiki, it seems simple enough as they state:

If you want to reuse an existing session cookie set from another application just adjust the following setting in lib/config.php:

// Session handling:
$config['sessionName'] = 'PHPSESSID';

Change PHPSESSID to the name of the session cookie you want to use.

I guess my question is, what is BBpress's PHPSESSID and how can I make this work?

Actually... i fixed this by installing _ck_'s year long cookie plugin.

I actually didn't have it installed before (And never did) BUT... decided to give it a shot and it worked!

According to the text in this plugin's comments, the "remember me" is supposed to change the cookie expiration to 2 weeks out. Does that happen to the cookie when you check the box?

Can you log in with one user, then check the cookie dates, close the browser, log in again, check the "remember me" and check the cookie dates? I have no idea how the function works, but maybe it just extends the expiration date of the cookie?

If that doesn't appear any different, maybe posting the entirety of the cookies, with the box checked and without, would help someone troubleshoot it.

Hi All,

I recently upgraded to 0.9.0.2 and since this upgrade the "remember me" functionality we used to have is now not working at all.

Basically if you close the browser down completely, and reopen it, then access the site you have to login Each time.

Any ideas?? i tried switching to default themes, etc and it made no difference.

Also, i should add that i have no WordPress integration at all, its a pure bbpress site.

i have modified wp-config.php and bb-config.php, but in the forum, all name have been erased and all people are "anonymous"... why?

To have access to bbPress functions from WordPress, you need to include bbPress inside WordPress. Then you can put that link wherever you want using bbPress functions. Read here:

Sounds more like a PHP question than either a bbPress or WordPress question. Sessions are outside the scope of what's built in to bbPress and WordPress (unless I am completely off.)

bbPress and WordPress both use cookies not sessions for storing the state. Not sure how you would go about this.

You'll need to use the PHP functions to check the cookies... bbpress doesn't use sessions by default.

Also, you wouldn't want to simply use the userid, because that would be insecure since anybody could hack a cookie with any username.

bbPress and WP both store two cookies, the username and the encrypted hash of the password. You'll have to use those in combination to do a lookup to the database to make sure they both match. I'd advise taking a look through the bbpress source code... it's not terribly difficult to understand.

The other thing you could do... you could create a plugin / hack for bbPress to assign a session parameter after a successful login, which you could then check for in your other code.

And then that would give me the userId which I could then query the users table with?

I assume this is a non-WP page as well?

You can check the bbpress session cookie and then use that to check the user against the database. You'd have to use the same logic that WP or BB uses (the latest bbpress changes this logic). You'll also need to make sure that the cookie domain is set correctly.

I've actually had to do this recently myself... it's pretty simple and works well.
