Hello,

My server seized up yesterday and it looks to me like the bbpress-live plugin was the root cause of the problem. I could be wrong and would be grateful for some other's opinions on this.

Details here:
http://learninglab.lincoln.ac.uk/blogs/joss/2008/10/14/wordpress-mu-and-server-resources/

Thanks
Joss

Yes, put it in it's own folder, inside the WordPress folder. So you might have something like this:

/var/www/public/website/wordpress
/var/www/public/website/wordpress/bbpress/

The 404 error might be because you are trying to use permalinks, either "slugs" or true, and they're not set up on your server. I would change them to
false
for now and see if you can get the links to work. If that works, then you know that was the problem and you just need to set up permalinks.

http://bbpress.org/documentation/faq/#pretty-permalinks

phpBB3 conversion:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/phpbb3-converstion

I don't think so, not easily, not yet. I think there was a script to export phpBB2 to bbPress:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/a-phpbb-to-bbpress-database-converter

Hopefully you put it in it's own folder, either under your WordPress folder, or off the webroot of your website.

View your profile should not give you an error unless you have something configured incorrectly.

Ok I was wondering where I should upload bbpress? Right in the wordpress folder on my server? Also why can't I click on the View your profile link? It says "User not found." is that because it is still beta so to speak...
Thanks,

There are literally millions of hosts. I am not going to recommend one. You need one that meets these basic requirements:

http://bbpress.org/about/requirements/

That's about it. Read some web hosting forums, take the comments with a grain of salt, decide on your budget, then pull the trigger based on the information at hand.

You would have to write a replacement for bb-includes/db.php to get bbPress to work with MSSQL.

Has anyone tried to install bbpress on ms sql server ?

I know mysql is required, but we already have a ms sql 2003 server up and runnig and would like to use bbpress on our intranet.

Of cource we don't want to mess up the existing stuff, but on other hand we would like to avoid having both mssql and mysql runnig.

So any experience, good advices or hints would be appreciated...

Did you put your custom themes into folder under the my-templates directory?

Have you viewed this sticky and this was no help?

Also, please provide a URL where this can be seen. Sounds like the path to the CSS is borked. The URL also helps someone determine what sort of hosting you're using.
