Since I am the only one that will be posting on wordpress I decided not to use integration, i am using wordpress 2.6.2 with the alpha downloaded yesterday. If I do not use the require once in the config to use wordpress functions in my header, sidebar, footer, it works just fine.

Good to know. You're the first to find the source of a problem. I never had that plugin installed so I don't know why I had that specific problem.

Why did it break all of the sudden though? Did you just install that plugin?

I think this is the fourth time I've heard about this now. I have no idea what's causing it. I think we need a new tag for it.

http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-10-alpha/page/2#post-19153

Do you have access to server logs? Maybe something is being logged there.

With a password failure, you should get the "Wrong Password" screen. But that's not happening. It's almost like the password is good but for some reason, it still thinks you didn't log in.

I tried from the failed password screen, the "you must log in to post" screen and even a different browser. I can't seem to get it to work. Maybe there will be something logged several times from all my attempts (my IP right now is 75.22.31.202). I even tried a password reset and I couldn't log in with the new password either.

This is integrated with WordPress? What version for both packages?

And, in your case, since this was sudden, what could possibly have changed that caused this? New software for bbPress or WordPress, or possibly something got updated on the server?

Suddenly, my forum stopped allowing anyone to log in. It simply redirects to the front page.

I recently upgraded from an early bbPress 1.0 alpha to the newest one, but the problem was happening before (it was on and off).

Now, nobody can get in.

I am hosting a site with bluehost. I installed bbpress with simplescripts. Although the installation seems to have gone correctly, I cannot log in. Every time I try, I'm just taken back to the log in page with no error message.

The error was from a Private Messaging plugin (note: not a private forums plugin).

I have the default Akismet & Bozo plugins installed, and also the "Use Display Name" (which just changes your username to your nicename) and BBPrivate Messaging Plugin (as mentioned above) plugins installed. Removing them does not allow me to see the forums content either.

I just noticed that actually only admins can see the forum content.

You asked:

You didn't make all your forums categories in the admin, did you?

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm new to BBPress. I converted an old WordPress XDForum plugin to BBPress, so perhaps something happened with permissions there, but even so, any direction as to how to open these up to everyone would be great!

If when I put my WP log in form into bb-login.php and when that redirects to wp-login.php but shows a 404 (when the file is there), should I go to WordPress MU forums to ask for help?

>>>>
OK It also happens when I put bb-login.php into the code instead of wp-login.php, but I'm sure it's still a WP/MU thing.

Putting my WP login box on the sidebar of the main page of the forum works however, so what I really need is to be able to change the log in message at the bottom of those pages.

Perhaps it's that I'm using ThemePress, but styling the login doesn't work. I suppose I'll have to actually edit the file, but it's a file that shouldn't cause upload trouble. I don't want to have to do that much though.

Also, how do I change the register/login link at the bottom of a post if one's not logged in to a little form itself? I can't find this in my theme, and I'd like to change that.

It's important to keep things on the WP side since I'm using MU.

I didn't find another post on this by the way. And thanks for any help!

Another update:

I just wrote an add-on to my WP plugin, and it works with BBPress. It relates to the post author, just like the WP plugin related to a post or comment author. It even uses IDs which turned out to be the same in both my installs. I have two users and they did migrate.

Now why am I having the login problem?

An update:

I don't think my integration in general is working too well, because my avatar from my own avatar plugin is not displaying my user's av. Of course this could be my plugin, and perhaps I need to work on an integration for THAT, too - ha ha.

But I'm really worried about my MU integration..

Looking closer I think it is the plugin in the sense that the post doesn't bring up WP-type post code, but BBPress and the plugin doesn't have that written. It'd have been nice for it to be more integrated on its own. I read others use their plugins on the forum pages. Sigh.

I searched, but there were only similar problem and another (only similar) MU problem was not replied to.

I have an MU site I'm building and I installed BBPress for it. Everything's fine except for this issue. I installed the three integration plugins, and I logged in to the forum with my WP info and it shows my display name.

But here's the thing. (This is not a browser thing but I find it funny to note I can see both instances of the problem at the same time..) In Firefox I'm currently logged into the forum and not WordPress, in IE it's the opposite. If I log in to WordPress, it doesn't log me into the forum and vice versa.

I want to get rid of BBPress's logging system altogether and especially the registration, because I don't want to chance it that it won't work for my MU, like I read in another thread.

Currently I know this will be very annoying to my users, and I don't want that.

Any help? Thanks.

Oh yes, I forgot about that. Sorry.

This should work only in posts:

.post img {
max-width: 600px;
max-height: 800px;
}

I think the max-dimension doesn't work in Internet Explorer, not sure how much that bothers you? You can additionally add:

.post {
overflow: auto;
}

so that images larger than your post area will not break the layout but simply have a scrollbar at the bottom to navigate it. :)

Thanks for that tip!!
I will try it soon

But will that effect other images i have in my layout, say i have a header that is 800px wide will it shrink my header to 600px or just the content in the forum?

Very simple way to softly resize your images: go to your theme's folder, open
style.css
, and copy in this code at the bottom:

img {
max-width: 600px;
max-height: 800px;
}

You can change this to any values you like, but I think 600px width works with the default theme at least. Make sure there are no spaces between the number and the
px
. If you don't care about height you can just take that line out. Any bigger images will be scaled down automatically - they will still load at full resolution/size, but they will display smaller. :)
