I would like to only display 10 topics on my front page, but 40 when viewing each forums individually.

Is there an easy way (within the theme maybe?) to limit the front-page.php latest discussions to a smaller number than the items per page assignment in the admin panel?

When I am on my Front Page and click on any of the other pages numbers (2, 3, Next>>, etc) I get this error:

Also, if you'd like to dynamically add some text to the left (or even the right) of the page links without hacking all your templates, you can use this trick:

// add "pages:" to page links
function text_topic_pages( $text ) { if ($text) {$text="pages: ".$text;} return $text; }
add_filter('topic_pages', 'text_topic_pages');
add_filter('forum_pages', 'text_topic_pages');

This way the word "pages:" appears before the page number links only if there actually are any pages for the results.

Here's something I had made a mental note of quite awhile ago but forgot to do, add pagination to the front-page for the latest discussions. You can see a demo near the bottom of http://bbshowcase.org/forums/

(the following two functions are included in the 0.0.4 version of topics-page-page plugin, so don't use them if you have that)

add_filter('get_latest_topics_limit','front_page_pagination',999);
function front_page_pagination($limit="") {
global $page;
if (is_front() && $page>1) {$limit.=" OFFSET ".($page-1)*bb_get_option('page_topics');}
return $limit;
}
function front_page_pages() {
global $page, $bbdb;
echo get_page_number_links( $page, $bbdb->get_var("SELECT SUM(topics) FROM $bbdb->forums"));
}

1. add to your
front-page.php
template

<div class="nav"><?php front_page_pages(); ?></div>

AFTER

<?php endforeach; endif; // $topics ?>
</table>

2. If you use rewrite slugs you MUST add the following rule to your
.htaccess
file

RewriteRule ^page/([0-9]+)/?$ /forums/?page= [L,QSA]

anywhere before
</IfModule>

where
/forums/
is the path to your bbpress install.

Hello,

I like the Latest Discussions on the frontpage, to have a quick look of the active topics, but I'd like to limit it to max. 5 topics.
Is there a way to do this? I tried several plugins found on the internet/this website, but none of them works.
Is there a way by changing the code? If yes, in which file should I look?
Btw, what is the default amount of 'Latest Discussions' on the frontpage?

Thanks.

But now that you say that, my next objective is to put the latest posts from Wordpress in the BBpress's sidebar. RSS is a good option I can use to do it. I'm going to find how after this.

Hi.

First of all, thanks a ton for all the hard work that you guys have done making our live easier. I apologies if there is other discussion about this issue (I did a search and didn't find an answer).

I'm integrating my Wordpress blog with BBpress forums and I would like to have the Latest Discussions list in the sidebar for all pages. I already put it in the blog with a WP pluging, now I'm trying to put it in the forum.

I tried copy and paste the code from front-page.php to sidebar.php. It works fine when I'm in the front page, but disappears when I enter in a topic or other page.

So, could you give me a clue, a code or a pluging I can use to have this done???

Any help is appreciate. Thanks.

Find
\bb-templates\kakumei\front-page.php
 (or the same template name in any alternate theme you might be using) and find the line that says

<?php if ( $topics || $super_stickies ) : ?>
(around line 11) and make it say

Well you're asking two different things but the answer to both is yes with some code changes to your templates.

You can get the last poster for any topic in the list via this:

<?php echo '<a href="'.get_topic_last_post_link().'">'.get_topic_last_poster().'</a>'; ?>

but there is also a plugin that I believe will change the last poster's name into a link too. So either way.

You might be able to paginate the lastest discussions by putting this at the bottom of latest discussions outside the loop:

<?php forum_pages(); ?>

However it's a 50/50 chance it won't work.

Or you can use the "My Views" plugin which will give you a paginated Latest Discussion view that you can link to.

example:

Is it possible to use pagination on the Latest Discussions on the front page?

I want users to be able to go to the last page of a long thread.
