I'll try what you've suggested and report back.
The version I'm using is the 1.0 alpha as you guessed.
Thanks again

You didn't mention what version you installed. It matters for finding problems like this. It looks like it's probably an Alpha release and the indication of an error on that line means there's likely a problem on a previous line. My guess is that there is a syntax error in the BB_LOGGED_IN_KEY.

It helps to use an editor with syntax highlighting to see if this is the problem. Posting an edited version of the bb-config.php will not help because you will destroy the evidence in editing.

I have seen keys that work fine for WordPress, but not bbPress. Maybe that's happening here. You might want to simplify your WordPress key then match the bbPress key to that. The WordPress API allows all sorts of weird characters in there (non A..Z a..z 0..9) and they're properly escaped for WordPress but sometimes they don't work with bbPress.

But I think that's probably your problem, one of the bbPress keys. PHP reports the error on the next line it tries to parse I think.

Hi all,

I am getting this error when I go to the url for my bbpress install, apparently everything worked during install and integration to my wordpress blog.
However this is the error I get -

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/content/d/o/c/docst4r/html/iglesiacdr/bbpress/bb-config.php on line 24

this is what is on line 24 in my bb_config.php -

$bb_table_prefix = 'bb_'; // Only letters, numbers and underscores please!

This is all foreign to me please help.

I noticed this bug as well (0.8.3) and came across another one (see below).
The whole password workflow seems a bit clunky and confusing. There is no link for a password reminder or reset, and the only way to get to the reset function is to attempt a login. Many users who have forgotten their password may not try to log in, and will look for a "password reminder" or reset function instead. They may not work out that they have to click log-in anyway to get to the reset!
On my current install, if I initiate a password reset with an empty user id field, the system simply exits and displays a blank page. It would be better to trap this and indicate to the user that they must enter a user name to execute the reset process.

I don't mind cutesy names that appear only behind the scenes, but since the role "Key Master" gets displayed to end users, it might be helpful if it were called something more intuitive. Users may grasp the Admin > Moderator > Member > Inactive > Blocked hierarchy, but probably not that there's a Key Master who rules them all. "Superadmin," maybe?

Just a suggestion. I guess as a workaround I'll create a new Key Master account and downgrade my usual account to "Admin."

Hi All,

When I go to "bbpress dashboard > Content > Akismet Spam" I'm told "The API key you have specified is invalid. Please double check the $bb->akismet_key variable in your config.php file. If you don't have an API key yet, you can get one at WordPress.com."

Which I've checked and double-checked. I'm positive I'm putting the same string in that I see when I login to http://wordpress.com/profile/
When I check my wordpress blog, running on a different host and different domain from bbpress, the same key is there and wp reports the akismet plugin is working.

Another post from 6 months ago said replacing single quotes with double quotes in config.php fixed the problem for them. Doesn't work for me though. http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/146?replies=4

Success. I redid everything, dropped the db's bb_ tables, started over, and it worked.

This time I put the forum folder inside the WP folder. (I tried to log in with another browser, so make sure it wasn't just my WP "admin" cookie getting me in, and the other browser worked.)

That by itself shouldn't necessarily have provided a magic fix, only share cookies, right?

So what was it? I don't know for sure... maybe the my-plugins folder didn't have the correct permissions, or the bbPress plugin inside it, and re-doing everything helped.

I wish I could be of more help here to those who can't get it working. Maybe just being a real example of a person who had a no-login issue and resolved it is enough motivation. My advice: start over.

As well, make sure you have the plugins for integration loaded. One in Wordpress and the other in bbPress.

Also, it integrates well if you have bbpress in a subdirectory of your blog. If it resides somewhere else on the server, you might have to also take a look at:

hi blake,

http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/4?replies=1

i tried that, no dice.

i also found my WP install to be at version 2.0, so I upgraded to 2.0.5, still no dice.

if you come up with anything, please respond in this thread.

thx
